This Saturday young prospect Jermain Taylor will get his shot not only at Bernard Hopkins, but at boxing immortality. Sure Hopkins has been champ for a decade, but what top undefeated middleweights has he fought? The only one that comes to mind is Glen Johnson and yes that stoppage was a victory but it was a long time ago. Taylor may also be the strongest contender Bernard has fought. Be sure to check's Doc's Undisputed pick on this one as Doc's has found the value line three weeks in a row, including +240 for Mayweather to KO Gatti.
The Middleweight championship this weekend offers a fantastic comparison; Will the young guy be able to get by the cagey longtime champion? Hopefully the fight will be more entertaining than the last 10 or so Hopkins fights, as he usually stinks up the joint being too careful. The undercard was loaded until Eric Morel was suspended and denied his shot at champion Fernando Montiel. The Oscar Larios vs. Wayne McCullough rematch should have its share of fireworks, however.
It was also recently announced that Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo will wage a rematch of their epic battle on Oct. 8. Although I feel the fight is way too soon for their brains to have healed, I nonetheless respect these warriors for giving back to the boxing public and not letting childish negotiations get in the way.
This Friday on ESPN2 they will showcase hot prospect Jason Litzau (14-0, 14 KO) as he takes another step up in competition. He has looked great but he does need to be put in with a live body before any serious questions will be asked.
