2017 Super Bowl Prop Picks and Expert Betting Advice
by Dave Schwab - 1/25/2017
The New England Patriots went wire to wire as the top favorites in the AFC futures to represent this conference in Super Bowl LI, but the Atlanta Falcons coming out of the NFC was a bit of a surprise given their preseason futures odds as fourth or fifth favorites to win their conference. Nonetheless, we should have a pretty good matchup on tap in Super Bowl LI when kickoff finally rolls around on Sunday, Feb. 5 at NRG Stadium at 6:35 p.m. (ET).
2017 Super Bowl Handicapping and Betting: Injuries to Factor into Wagers
by Trevor Whenham - 1/25/2017
Injuries can be a very big factor in the NFL Playoffs. All you need for proof of that is to look at the AFC Championship Game. Le'Veon Bell had set a Pittsburgh team record with 167 yards rushing in the Steelers' first playoff game. Then he broke that record with 170 yards in the next game. He was the heart and soul of the Pittsburgh offense down the stretch and into the playoffs, and he was the biggest reason for their success. Bell reportedly had a banged-up groin heading into the AFC Championship, and by the second quarter he was done.
2017 Super Bowl Betting Advice: Understanding Pubic Wagering Mindset
by Trevor Whenham - 1/25/2017
The Super Bowl is, simply and obviously, as big as it can possibly get. No sporting spectacle on this continent gets close to this much attention. People who don't bet all year wager on this game, and people who normally bet a little often bet a lot here. For casual public bettors this is by far the biggest day of the year. Whenever the public is betting in big numbers they can have a very big impact on how lines are set and how they move.
2017 Super Bowl MVP Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 1/23/2017
The Super Bowl MVP is likely to be one of the two quarterbacks. Let's not kid ourselves about that. These two guys are superstars that dictate the play of their teams as much as any guy in the league. Eleven of the last 18 MVP winners have been quarterbacks, and Tom Brady has won the award himself three times already.
Handicapping the 2017 Super Bowl Coaches
by Trevor Whenham - 1/23/2017
The head coaches are always one of the most interesting aspects of the Super Bowl. This year's matchup is a very good one. Not quite as good as Bill Belichick against Pete Carroll a couple of years ago, but it's still an interesting one. Belichick is the gold standard of head coaches in this league - there has never been any better.
Super Bowl Coin Toss Betting: History and Trends
by Trevor Whenham - 1/23/2017
The Super Bowl, like all major, established sporting events, is rich with traditions. There are things that just have to happen every year for it to feel like a Super Bowl. Some are universal and some are personal. For me, one of those personal traditions is when I annually set out to write about the dumbest bet in the history of the world - the Super Bowl coin toss prop bet.
2017 Super Bowl Facts and Interesting Statistics
by Trevor Whenham - 1/23/2017
It's a proven and indisputable fact - the best way to impress the opposite sex is to have an endless supply of trivia in your head. And the more obscure and useless the better. This is especially true during a major event like the Super Bowl where you will likely be watching with a group of people. So memorize this list of Super Bowl facts and you will be amazed at the dizzying seductive power you suddenly possess. Don't say we don't take care you around here. You're welcome:
Ranking the Super Bowls: Top 10 Games of All Time
by Trevor Whenham - 1/19/2017
It's time for another of our annual Super Bowl traditions around here - ranking the best Super Bowls of all time. Here's an early spoiler - the games are in the same order as last year, because last year's dud of a contest certainly did not break into the list. When the winning team has less than 200 total yards of total offense, the game certainly isn't a classic by my eyes. Really, this list has stayed mostly the same for quite a while. Just one game has broken into the Top 10 since Super Bowl XLII back in 2008. We can only hope that this year's edition can breathe new life into this list:
Super Bowl Betting and Money Management
by Trevor Whenham - 1/19/2017
Chances are that if you are reading this you are betting on the Super Bowl. Chances are also pretty good that you aren't relying on those bets to make a living, or to make you rich. It's also a pretty good chance that you aren't so wealthy that you could lose any amount of money and not feel it. If that's all true then you need to be concerned about Super Bowl betting money management.
Super Bowl Handicapping: Carolina Panthers and the Cover-2 Defense
by Robert Ferringo - 2/5/2016
There are a million different angles to take leading into Super Bowl 50 between Carolina and Denver, which will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday near San Francisco. But for me, one of the most interesting subplots - which is interesting to exactly zero other people - is whether or not Carolina's Cover-2 will finally get the best of Peyton Manning, and whether the Panthers' success in making it to Super Sunday will lead to a resurgence of the Cover-2 defense. I have written several times over the past three years that the Cover-2 is an antiquated system and ready to go the way of the Wishbone and the Run-and-Shoot. But could a Super Bowl win by the Panthers lead a revival for this dying approach?
Betting the Super Bowl Total Line Expert Advice and Tips
by George Monroy - 2/4/2016
Super Bowl 50 may be the most difficult Super Bowl to handicap in recent memory. The betting public has been firmly behind the Carolina Panthers, but as the line continues to move, wagering on Denver plus six points becomes more intriguing with every day that passes by. However, if you are at a loss for which side to take, just skip the spread altogether and focus on the totals line.
NFL Betting and Wagering Advice: Most Important Matchups for the Super Bowl
by Victor Ryan - 2/4/2016
It's for all the marbles this weekend when the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos clash in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday. For nearly two weeks, the public has overwhelmingly backed the Panthers at the betting windows, which has forced the line up to Carolina -5.5 and possibly -6.0 by game time.
Super Bowl Total Predictions: Betting the Over or Under and Totals Wagering Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 2/3/2016
I have a confession to make. I'm just not that crazy about totals. I write about sports betting pretty much every day, so I should be fascinated by all aspects of the great pursuit of profit. Betting totals, though, rarely fires up my imagination. I think it's that I am, in most cases, much more interested in who wins and how much they win by than by how many points they score. I don't care if a team wins 21-0 or 42-21 - it's still a 21-point domination by my way of thinking. I also don't really care about rooting for or against garbage-time points once a game has already been decided and the spread has been covered.
Denver Broncos vs. Carolina Panthers Expert Betting Picks for Best Super Bowl Props on Board
by Chris Vasile - 2/3/2016
As we approach what could possibly be the last 60 minutes of Peyton Manning's illustrious career, will his potential swan song define his legacy as a quarterback who could not win the big game (one Super Bowl title in 3 opportunities) or will it have a Disney movie-type ending for the record-holding quarterback out of Tennessee?
Super Bowl 50 Quarterback Props Odds and Expert Betting Picks
by Dave Schwab - 2/3/2016
The Super Bowl pits the best NFL team from the AFC against the best team from the NFC, but this Sunday's matchup between Denver and Carolina in Super Bowl 50 has created quite a bit of media attention for both Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback for the Broncos and for Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton as the primary focal points of the game.
2016 Super Bowl First Touchdown Props Picks and Expert Predictions
by George Monroy - 2/2/2016
Prop bets tend to get a lot of attention during the Super Bowl. And even though the wagers can be found on a weekly basis at nearly every sportsbook, much of the attention surrounding Super Bowl prop betting (from the mainstream media at least) will involve entertainment wagers like the color of the Gatorade shower or the length of the "National Anthem". Regular sports bettors typically skip those wagers and stick to the props that have value.
Super Bowl Betting Props: Matchup Odds and Wagering Advice
by Trevor Whenham - 2/2/2016
When it comes to Super Bowl prop betting, one of my favorite things to look at each year is the matchup props - the comparisons of two similar players and their expected performances in the game. This year there are some interesting comparisons to be had both for quarterbacks and running backs. The quarterbacks in particular are so fascinating because the two guys are in such different parts of their careers.
2016 Super Bowl Injuries: How they Impact Handicapping the Big Game
by Trevor Whenham - 2/2/2016
When you are handicapping the Super Bowl, you obviously need to be very focused on the health of the teams involved. Both the Panthers and the Broncos will be playing their 19th real game of the year - and 23rd if you include the farce that is the preseason. Injuries aren't just a possibility at this time of year - they are inevitable. To properly assess the game and what you expect of it, you need to know who is going to be able to play and how effective they should be - this isn't exactly rocket science, is it?
Super Bowl Public Action Betting Report and Line Movement Analysis
by Trevor Whenham - 2/2/2016
There is a massive amount of public money bet on the Super Bowl. A lot of that money is bet by people who don't bet often and, frankly, don't really know what they are doing. There is also a heavy amount of action from sharp bettors looking to feast on those naive bettors. The more action there is on a game, the more alert the oddsmakers have to be when setting and moving their lines and the more chance there is that something interesting could happen that could provide an opportunity for value - or could at least help you in your betting decision making.
Betting on the 2016 Super Bowl: Overrated and Underrated Handicapping Factors
by Trevor Whenham - 2/1/2016
When you are trying to handicap the Super Bowl, there is no end to the potential distractions that can lead you astray. The media coverage is so intense for the game that everyone has an opinion and a storyline that they think is important. Inevitably, some of those storylines are overrated and get too much attention, and other storylines are underrated and will potentially have a bigger impact on the game than the buzz would lead you to believe.
