It was another hectic week of football and an even crazier trade deadline this week. It has become clear which teams intend on contending and which are not, as the NFL saw the most trades ever recorded on deadline day. Players like Bradley Chubb, T.J. Hockenson, Calvin Ridley, and Nyheim Hines each are heading to new destinations, which will impact the league greatly.

The NFL season continues to cruise by with a clearer picture being painted of which teams are legitimate and which simply don’t have it this year. In Week 7, favorites went 8-6 straight up and 6-8 against the spread. The most notable upset was the Panthers taking down the Buccaneers by a score of 21-3 despite going in as 13-point underdogs. There are four teams returning from their bye week with just the Chiefs and Chargers set to be taking the week off. Here is a look at the Week 8 slate with my Week 8 survivor pool picks ranked from most confident to least confident:

The NFL season is flying by, and Week 7 is now upon us. The Philadelphia Eagles remain the only undefeated team in the NFL following their Sunday Night victory over the Cowboys. Underdogs had a strong week, going 7-6 straight up in Week 6. The most notable upset was the Pittsburgh Steelers, who took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-18 despite being eight-point underdogs. The Falcons (+5 vs 49ers), Jets (+7 vs Packers), and Giants (+5 vs Ravens) all also secured upset wins. The focus will now shift to Week 7, where six of the 14 matchups hold a spread of seven points or more.

In Week 5, Favorites went 11-5 straight up but just 5-10-1 against the spread. The biggest upsets of the week were the Texans (+8 and +260 ML) taking down the Jaguars, 13-6, as well as the Giants (+8, +300) taking down the Packers, 27-22. There also were some convincing wins from the top dogs as the Bills (-14) took down the Steelers 38-3, and the Patriots (-3) put forth a convincing 29-0 victory over the Lions.

The madness of the NFL season is in full swing, and expectations have rapidly shifted for teams throughout the league. The Philadelphia Eagles are the lone remaining undefeated team, while the Texans (0-3-1) are the only team without a victory. After an impressive showing from the underdogs in Week 3, the favorites bounced back with a 10-6 overall performance and a 10-5-1 ATS spread record in Week 4.

There are just six remaining undefeated teams, while five teams have fallen to 0-2. In Week 2, favorites went 10-6, but their record against the spread was just 7-9. The week's biggest victory was the Bills’ 41-7 win over the Titans to comfortably cover the 10-point spread. We have reached the penultimate regular season week in the NFL, and the playoff picture is slowly starting to take shape. The Packers, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bucs have all clinched their division and are gearing up for the playoffs, while the remaining 10 spots are up for grabs and could go to a handful of teams. This week, with survivor pools dwindling down, I will give my best choice for each game on the moneyline, which is similar to a survivor pool, but I just won’t rank them in any particular order. “Yuck.” That was the first word I said when I saw this Week 15 card. As I slowly went through each one of the games, several other words came to mind, and not one of them was positive. This card stinks. You have some good opportunities on Thursday and Saturday, but the Sunday/Monday night card is one of the worst I’ve seen this year. Nonetheless, let’s try and make the best of it, but remember, if you don’t LOVE a play, don’t force it.

I’m starting to believe that momentum is not a real thing, especially in football. Teams who look great one week come out and play terribly the next, and the teams that were blown out come out and look like Super Bowl contenders. We saw a great example of that with the Cardinals and Niners last week, and we were on the wrong side of both contests. The most important thing to remember when handicapping football is that every week is a different beast and it should be treated as such.

Depending on what type of bettor you are – a favorite chaser or one who bets nothing but underdogs – Week 9 was either extremely profitable or a complete and unmitigated disaster. Several huge underdogs lost outright, including the Bills, Cowboys and Rams, and it was just one of those weeks where you have to shake your head, dust it off and try again. Here’s to hoping that Week 10 is a little bit more reasonable in terms of the results.

If the theme of Week 7 was “blowout,” what will Week 8 have in store for us? Well, for starters, the slate is more competitive from a game-by-game perspective, and there are only two teams on a bye, which gives us more action to take in. There are some really good games to watch such as the Thursday night game between Arizona and Green Bay and the Sunday night game between Dallas and Minnesota. Hopefully we will have more than one game that is decided by three points or less.

t’s incredible to think that we are nearly halfway through the 2021/22 NFL Season and yet we are so far away from understanding which teams are “legitimately good” and which teams are just pretenders. Don’t get me wrong, preseason favorites like Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Green Bay have played well enough to justify their ability and capability to win the Lombardi Trophy, but the only remaining unbeaten team is the Arizona Cardinals, who, are quite quickly becoming the “best team in the league” according to some.
