NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 10
by Matt Severance - 11/6/2019
Now that everyone can shut up about the New England Patriots possibly going 19-0 - we called Baltimore's upset on Sunday night in Week 9 - the 2019 regular season probably will be remembered as the Year of the Backup Quarterback.

The strangest season of survivor pool play ever continues. Strange because it has been so easy. Last week again continued according to expectations. We picked out four teams that were very playable - Buffalo, San Francisco, Seattle and Dallas. The Niners and Seahawks made things a little more interesting than would be ideal, but again all four won.

We heard rumors of guys like the Jets' Le'Veon Bell and Jamal Adams, Bengals' A.J. Green, Chargers' Melvin Gordon and Redskins' Trent Williams potentially being shopped ahead of Tuesday's NFL Trade Deadline, but it largely came and went without a peep. (I'm half-surprised the freaking Patriots didn't somehow get them all.) Williams, incidentally, has finally reported to the Redskins, but it's not like Washington is any good.

As I write this, the Monday night game between Miami and Pittsburgh has not been played yet. I'm not going to worry about that, though, because it's not like anyone with even half a brain would watch that dog of a game. So far, this has been yet another pretty straightforward week for survivor pool players in what has been the easiest season of survivor pool play that the world has ever seen. The last couple of weeks we have just been applying a formula, and unless the Dolphins pull off a shocking upset today that formula will be undefeated again.
NFL Survivor Pools Expert Advice and Predictions for Week 8

Another week, and other very easy set of survivor pool picks last week. This has been the oddest season I have ever seen for survivor pools. There have been strange and shocking results in the NFL for sure this year, but they mostly haven't come in the most obvious of games. The bad teams have been really bad, and the good teams have been doing their jobs.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 8

I always recommend waiting until the last possible second to make your Survivor Pool Pick because of potential last-minute injury news, but I really stress that here for Week 8 because there could be trades all weekend ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. On Tuesday alone, we saw the league's two unbeaten teams get better with New England acquiring Falcons receiver Mohamed Sanu and San Francisco acquiring Denver receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 7

Is the 2015 NFL Draft looking like one giant bust in retrospect or what? Of course, the Tampa Bay Bucs took Heisman winner Jameis Winston at No. 1 overall out of Florida State and the Tennessee Titans grabbed Heisman winner Marcus Mariota out of Oregon at No. 2. Both those guys were simply awesome in college and mostly loved by NFL scouts. It sure looks like neither will be back with their current team next season as both play on the final year of their rookie contracts and are struggling.

This has been a very strange season so far in the world of NFL survivor pools. Each week the choices have been so easy they have all but slapped you in the face. And, with the one notable exception of the Chiefs two weeks ago, they have turned out just as expected. I have played these pools for many years now and have never seen so many people alive in my pools after six weeks as I have now. And what is crazy is that it just seems set to continue again in Week 7.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 6

The various sportsbooks had a very good Week 5 around the NFL. They cashed in big time on the Indianapolis Colts upsetting the Chiefs in Kansas City on Sunday night as they books were more exposed on KC than any other team. They also did well on teams like Green Bay and Arizona winning on the road.

A lot of survivor pool players last week took a big hit - a fatal one as things go in these games. Philadelphia was the most popular pick, and they took care of business. But the Chiefs were a pick of a lot of people used as well, and they fell to the Colts in a fairly decisive manner. It wasn't a lopsided score, but it sure felt like Indy had the Chiefs figured out like not many teams have in the last couple of years. If you are still alive, though, then there is more work to be done.

Wow, here's hoping that you ignored my advice last week in a Survivor Pool as my top four recommendations, the Rams (over Tampa Bay), Texans (over Carolina), Falcons (over Tennessee) and Ravens (over Cleveland) all lost outright! OK, I deserve a bit of a break because I was moving last week so perhaps a bit distracted, but jeez I can't remember a week like that before.

This is, by a wide margin, the toughest week of the season to date when it comes to NFL survivor pools selections. In fact, this is the first week that has taken more than a second of thought. It's almost unfair how things set up this week. The three worst teams in the NFL right now feel like the Dolphins, Bengals and Redskins - probably in that order.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 4
by Matt Severance - 9/25/2019
No real earth-shattering upsets in Week 3 around the NFL. Detroit went to Philadelphia and upset the Eagles, but Philly has been a crap September team for two years now and was really short-handed injury-wise. I can't say I expected the Giants to win in Tampa, but it's not like I had all that much faith in the Bucs. Just none in Daniel Jones, and boy were we all wrong.
NFL Survivor Pools Expert Advice and Predictions for Week 4
by Trevor Whenham - 9/24/2019
It has been an incredibly easy season so far for NFL survivor pool players. Every week has had very obvious picks that have turned out, for the most part, precisely as they were supposed to. Last week was even easy compared to the rest of this straightforward season - the Cowboys, Patriots and Packers were all painfully obvious picks, and they all won almost as easily as they were supposed to.

OK, I know what you are thinking already: I'm just going to use my Survivor Pick each week on whomever faces the Miami Dolphins. Well, obviously that's not possible because the Fins play their AFC East rival Patriots, Jets and Bills twice each. Second, it's still rather unlikely, even as bad as that team is (and then some after trading top cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick to Pittsburgh for a 2020 first-round pick), the Dolphins will go 0-16. Perhaps picking against them on the road is a decent idea as it's sure tough to see them avoiding 0-8 away from South Florida.

I don't want to be unkind, but the first two weeks of NFL survivor pools action have been as easy as they can possibly be, and if you have been eliminated so far then you need to find a new hobby. The picks have been incredibly obvious both weeks and have required approximately 12 seconds combined to make the picks. And this week should take even less time. There is no decision to make. Just take the obvious team and live to fight another week.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 2
by Matt Severance - 9/11/2019
We mentioned last week that Week 1 was always the toughest in the NFL to handicap because while we think we know what teams are … we really don't. Especially with more and more coaches opting to not play any of their key guys at all during the preseason. For example, you can't tell me that a bit of rust wasn't why both Chicago's Mitchell Trubisky and Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers (or both first-team offenses, for that matter) struggled so badly in their opener. Stupid Bears!
NFL Survivor Pools Expert Advice and Predictions for Week 2
by Trevor Whenham - 9/10/2019
Things started out well on the survivor pool front in Week 1 of the NFL season. Basically, if you got yourself knocked out in that week then you just may not be smart enough to play survivor pools. There were five games that were obviously playable, and all five of them turned out the right way. And this week's slate is not that tough to play with, either.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 1

I am in several Survivor and Confidence Pools again this year, and I almost never put all my eggs in one basket. So, if I was to list a team in the No. 16 spot - which means that's my most confident pick - it definitely doesn't mean that's the team I will use in each Survivor Pool. Have said this before and will again: You need to play "defense" some weeks. I'll just remind those of you who were on the Minnesota Vikings last year in Week 3. Minnesota was a 17-point home favorite over the Buffalo Bills, and the Vikings got spanked 27-6.

Another NFL season means another season of survivor pools - and, hopefully, a path to both profit and glory when we emerge as the winner. The first week of survivor pools is when a lot of people make really dumb mistakes. Heck, people make dumb mistakes in these pools every week, but the first week is particularly rough because it is so avoidable.

What are NFL Survivor Pool Picks
NFL Survivor Pool Picks are selections released by reputable sources, such as Doc's Sports, for the survivor pool that you are in. For over half a century, Doc's has been a leader in the gambling information industry, and utilizing their NFL Survivor Pool Picks can greatly increase your chances of winning your pool. What are the Basic Rules for NFL Football Survivor Contests?
NFL Football Survivor Pools usually follow this basic format:
1. Team Selection: Each week participants select one NFL team that they believe is most likely to win their game. The catch is, once that team has been used, it cannot be used for the rest of the season.
2. Winning Requirements: To survive and advance each week, your selected team must win. Ties and losses eliminate you from the contest. This is where the strategy comes into play, because if you use the best selections early on, later in the season you're left with less talented squads to choose from.
3. Last Person Standing: Each week the field is reduced until just one participant is remaining. This means successfully picking a winner until you are the last player left.
4. Contest Duration: Leagues usually last the duration of the football season, although some use a playoff format where the top portion of the league continues to play until the last person is standing.
5. Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie among players, tiebreakers such as total points scored or the record of the last team picked can be used to determine a winner.
It's important to note that each league is different and it is vital to understand all of the rules and nuances of your league. For example, some survivor pools use the point spread for the game to determine the winner, while there are other pools where you simply must pick the winner of the game.
What is a Survivor Pool Grid?
A survivor pool grid is a visual representation, usually in the form of a chart, that tracks the competitors and the teams they used each week. It provides transparency for the integrity of the group.
What is the Circa Survivor Pool?
The Circa Survivor Pool is renowned for being one of the largest and most prestigious survivor pools, with a buy-in of $10,000. It attracts significant attention due to its immense prize pool, often reaching millions of dollars. In 2022, a staggering 6,133 participants joined the pool, competing for a prize pool of $6.13 million.
What is the DraftKings Survivor Pool?
DraftKings offers many different Survivor Pools, but two in particular gain wide attention. The first, with a prize pool of $30,000, is incredibly popular because of the free entry fee. The other is a $1 million guarantee, for an entry fee of $100. The free contest only allows you one entry, while the $100 tourney has a cap of 10 entries.
What is an NFL Survivor Loser Pool?
These types of pools, also known as Loser Pools or Reverse Survivor Pools, offer a unique twist on the Survivor Pool concept by forcing the contestant to pick one team that loses every week. Once you pick a team that wins, you are eliminated from the contest. The last person remaining that has picked a loser in each game is declared the winner. Also, some second-chance pools are called "loser pools". If many contestants are eliminated early in the season because of a plethora of upsets, the pool runner might create a second pool called a loser pool.
What is an NFL Confidence Pool?
An NFL Confidence Pool is a popular type of football pool where participants assign confidence points to the predicted straight-up winners of the NFL games for that particular week. The points range from 1 (least confident) to the highest number of games for the week. Participants pick based on their varying levels of certainty to the winners of the week's game. Doc's also offers free NFL confidence pool picks each week throughout the pro football season.
What are NFL Office Pool Picks?
NFL office pool picks are ATS picks for every game for each week of the pro football season. Many office pools ask competitors to pick every game against the spread each week. Doc's Sports offers free NFL office pool picks every week of the pro football season. Some office pools require contestants to pick a certain number of games each week. One popular variation is for players to pick five games each week ATS, which follows the model of many of the top pickem contests in Las Vegas.
