Week 6 of the NFL season is in the books, with the underdogs having a strong week. Favorites went just 6-7 both straight up and against the spread. The biggest upset of the week involved the Steelers, who were eight-point underdogs and +360 in the moneyline. Pittsburgh took down the Buccaneers 20-18 in the tight game. The Falcons (+5 vs 49ers), Jets (+7 vs Packers), and Giants (+5 vs Ravens) all also secured upset victories.

There was a larger spread on several of the Week 5 NFL matchups, which led to some interesting results from the teams. Favorites went 11-5 straight up but just 5-10-1 against the spread. The biggest upsets of the week were the Texans (+8 and +260 ML) taking down the Jaguars, 13-6, as well as the Giants (+8, +300) taking down the Packers, 27-22. There also were some convincing wins from the top dogs as the Bills (-14) took down the Steelers, 38-3, and the Patriots (-3) put forth a convincing 29-0 victory over the Lions.

After an impressive Week 3 for the underdogs in which they went 10-6 and 10-5-1 ATS, the favorites made somewhat of a return in Week 4. While the favorites were 10-6 outright in the week, they went just 7-9 against the spread. The biggest upset was the Titans' 24-17 victory over the Colts, which was a 4.5-point spread heading into the matchup.

It was a difficult Week 3 for favorites in the NFL. Underdogs were 10-6 outright and 10-5-1 ATS in the madness of the week. Some notable upsets included the Dolphins over the Bills, the Jaguars over the Chargers, and the Colts over the Chiefs. There are just two 3-0 teams remaining in the NFL as both the Eagles and Dolphins have emerged as surprise contenders. The NFL season continues with another flurry of madness in the Week 2 matchups. Overall, favorites went 10-6 on the week. However, their record against the spread was just 7-9. The week's biggest win was the Bills’ 41-7 victory over the Titans to comfortably cover the -10 spread. The most notable upset was the Cowboys' 20-17 victory over the Bengals in which they covered the +7 spread and won outright as +260 underdogs. The focus will now shift to Week 3 as expectations are beginning to shift for some teams around the NFL.

It was an eventful opening week to the NFL season. Both of last year’s Super Bowl participants (Rams and Bengals) as well as both No. 1 playoff seeds (Packers and Titans) lost outright. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up the upset with the largest moneyline payout in the opening week, with the Giants and Bears closely behind them. Overall favorites were 9-6-1 outright and 7-9 against the spread. The slates will be reset in Week 2 with a new opportunity for each team to change their fates.

While Week 16 didn’t offer much by way of excitement, it was a relatively even week for both favorite and underdog bettors as the slate was split 8-8 ATS over the three days of action. On the season, underdogs hold a slight edge (124-111-3) and road underdogs are to thank for that record as they have 79 of those wins and only 61 losses (2 pushes). You had the 1-11-1 Detroit Lions beat the 10-3 Arizona Cardinals by 18 points. You had the 10-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers get shut out by the 6-7 New Orleans Saints on their home field. And you had the Baltimore Ravens nearly beat the Green Bay Packers with a backup quarterback under center.

I really hope I’m not too late to the party. I already am a bit skeptical of this card, and the fact that I am taking a majority of favorites on the spread for this week doesn’t bode well for my confidence level.
