NFL Office Pool Picks Week 14
by Trevor Whenham - 12/5/2017
Last week was a very interesting week of the NFL season. Aside perhaps from Seattle dominating Philadelphia like they did, there wasn't a result on the schedule that was truly surprising. There were games that you could have gone either way with, but for the first time in a long time none that you looked at and thought that there was no way you could have gotten that right. That's a good feeling, and hopefully one that repeats itself. This week we are going heavily on the road teams, so here's hoping that the hotels are comfortable and the flights are smooth:

The NFL can't get their act together off the field long enough for us to only talk about the game on the field. The latest farce, as we will discuss in detail down the page, is the truly shameful treatment of a star veteran who has tried to captain a terminally sinking ship this season. Looking at the schedule this week, there aren't a whole lot of games on the schedule that are going to distract us from other issues. This is not set to be a classic week of football action. But office pools don't require excellent football. Here's my straight up office pool picks for Week 13 of the NFL season.

We are back at the point when things really get serious. Bye weeks are over, and the races that aren't already decided really get serious now. Every game matters for those contenders, and you can cut the intensity with a knife. And for the teams that are out of it and hopeless, this is when the pain and misery really adds up. The good and the bad are what makes this stretch of the season so exciting - and fun for office pools players. Here's how this week sets up for pool players:
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 11

Solid enough week last week for our office pool picks - not spectacular, but solid. The important thing is that there were four games decided by more than three touchdowns, and we were on the right side of all of them. As long as you are hitting on the blowouts you are doing okay. This week we head into the last week of byes and look to score some points before we get back to a full slate of 16 games. There are a lot of what feel like fairly straightforward games this week:

Two teams scored 51 points last week. That's what we need to make things exciting in what has been a pretty inconsistent season so far. And, as exciting, the two quarterbacks who led the offensive explosions were the top two picked in last year's draft, so in a league with some real quarterback issues that, along with the play of Deshaun Watson before he was hurt, is a reason for some real optimism about the future. I can imagine a time in seven or eight years that Watson, Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Tom Brady are in a bitter four-way battle for the MVP.
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 9
by Trevor Whenham - 10/30/2017
Week 9 is always a milestone week in my eyes. After this week every team in the league has played at least half of their season. For some teams that means that it is downhill until the merciful end of the season. They are over the top of the hill and the finish line is finally in sight. For others, though, things are just getting serious and they ramp up their play as the playoffs draw nearer. In theory, then, the second half is often easier to pick than the first half was for NFL office pool players. Let's hope that that is the case this year, because there have been some rough weeks this year. Here are the straight up picks for this week's NFL action.
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 8
by Trevor Whenham - 10/24/2017
So, that was pretty much inevitable. After a few rough weeks I suggested last week that the best thing to do would be to pick the team I didn't pick in each game. So, of course, I had one of the best weeks of the season and picked 11 winners. That's still nothing to write home about really, but compared to the last few weeks it's as if I had a window into the future. So, now I don't know what to tell you. I'll try to get 13 correct picks, of course. But whether I get closer to that or zero is kind of up in the air. Regardless, here's how I see the coming NFL week playing out straight up so you can dominate your office pool. Or maybe finish last.

Bettors, gamblers and pool players are always looking for one thing - a way to pick winners that can't miss. A way to reliably deliver profits and positive results. A sure thing. Well, lucky readers, I have a very exciting announcement for you. I have, after much work and experimentation, come up with a bulletproof way to pick winners in your NFL office pools. Follow this simple system and you can't miss. You'll win every week. And what is that incredible powerful system, you ask? Don't worry, I'm not even going to charge you for it. Here it is: just look at the picks I make, and pick the exact opposite. In every case. Without exception. You will be unbeatable, and the last few weeks have really proven that. Here are this week's picks to get you started on the road to success:

When my dad was much younger he rode bucking horses in the rodeo for a living for a couple of years. He didn't have a whole lot of success, but he learned a few things that he likes to share to this day. When you are riding angry horses you are going to hit the ground hard sometimes. If you let it scare you then you might as well quit because your next ride is doomed before it even starts. To be a rodeo rider, then, you need to heal fast and have a short memory.

The best part of this being the first week of the NFL season with byes is that there are fewer chances to be wrong with our office pool picks. It might sound silly, but after the last two weeks anyone who thinks that they know what is going on in the NFL is lying to themselves - and you. It has been just plain bizarre.
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 4
by Trevor Whenham - 9/26/2017
Well, that was a horrible week of action. A whole lot of very odd things happened last week in the NFL, and I don't think I anticipated a single one. The Bears beating the Steelers?!?! The Jaguars opening up a 44-point lead in London??!?!?! The Jets beating up on Miami??!!?! Sometimes the most important thing you need when playing office pools is a short memory. The fact that you pick few winners does not mean that you are incapable of picking winners. It just means you had a bad week. Or, in my case last week, a really bad week. This week will be much different, though - I can feel it. Here is how my straight up office pool picks set up for this week:
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 3
by Trevor Whenham - 9/19/2017
The first week of the NFL season was a bit of a mess, and my lackluster results in these picks showed that. Not much made sense. Week 2, though, was a different story. The games still largely sucked, but at least they were far more predictable, and the results were far more logical. It led to a pretty strong showing in my office pools, and that in turn left me with the optimism that another good showing can be possible this week. Heck, let's not go for a good showing - let's go for a great one. Here's how I see the week playing out, with straight up picks for every game:

That first week of NFL action was just plain weird. So many quarterbacks forgot how to play. Teams like Giants, Seahawks and Texans - serious playoff contenders all - have serious issues on offense. Teams that were easy to hate before the season - I'm talking to you Cincinnati and Indianapolis - were far worse than you could have imagined. And then there was Jacksonville. And New England - whatever that was. Tough week.

It is finally time for another NFL season. It's about freaking time. It's an interesting slate of games. Oakland and Tennessee are one of the more compelling games of the first month of the season. The Jets and Bills are one of the worst games I could imagine. And the rest fall somewhere in between. The two Monday night games aren't exactly the best the league could offer, but they'll be fine, and it doesn't matter anyway - football is football and some is better than none. As we have done for a lot of years now, we are going to pick the straight up winner of every game all season to help you dominate your office pools. So, without further ado:

This office pools season needs, like the year 2016, to end. The sooner the better. There have been some good parts of both the year and the season, but there have also been countless frustrations and setbacks. This last week of action was another example of why I hate this office pools season so much. It wasn't exactly a Christmas miracle. I still won more games than I lost - if you aren't doing that with straight up pick then you are really doing something wrong - but yet again I proved that high levels of success this year is a moving target and my scope isn't properly sighted.

It's the second-to- last week of the NFL season. That means that it is the second last week for you to show all the morons you are in an office pool with that you are the king of their world. Remember when you are making your picks this week that Sunday is Christmas Day, so Saturday is the new Sunday this week. There are two Christmas day games, but the bulk of the schedule is being played a day earlier than we would normally expect. So, don't be late with those picks -- you can't get a pick right if you don't make it. Without further ado, this week's straight up picks:

You know what is weird about the last month or so? The absence of jaw-dropping outcomes. Usually we see those in the NFL, but lately we haven't. I mean, look at last week. What, really, was shocking? The Cowboys finally lost, but the Giants earned their ninth win and they did it at home so it is hardly earth shaking.
NFL Office Pool Picks Week 14

This is when things really get interesting. All teams have played 12 games. It's a downhill sprint to the playoffs. Lots of games have no meaning at all, of course, but there are several games each week in which the stakes couldn't be any higher. Playoffs dreams are intensifying - and for many teams they will be crushed in the coming weeks. The games just mean more, and that makes picking straight up winners all the more fun. Here are my Office Pool picks for all 16 games on the glorious schedule this week:

It's some kind of cruel irony that I have had by far my two best weeks of this office pool season in the last two weeks - well after I was out of contention for winning the overall title in any pool because of the string of decidedly average weeks that came before these last two. Sigh. Well, all we can really do is aim for winning the weekly purses. And really, there's nothing too wrong with that. Let's keep the success rolling this week with 15 games that seem pretty manageable for the most part.

We are back to a full schedule of games - the bye weeks have come to an end. It comes at just the right time, too - we are coming off by far the best week of the season in our office pool picks. The good news, then, I guess is that there are more games to get right this week - I feel unstoppable right now. Let's not let the preamble get in the way of our success, then. Don't forget that we have three Thursday games this week due to Thanksgiving, so it will be three times worse than usual if you don't get your picks in on time:
