Free MLB Prediction From Strike Point Sports:
Take Atlanta (-1.5) over Washington (7 p.m., Friday, August 23)
The Braves have had some of the worst luck of any team in the Major Leagues this year and just suffered another key injury when Austin Riley went down. This team is still playing hard, and they have won six of their last eight games. The Braves are pushing for a playoff spot and should be able to take this series against the Nationals starting with Game 1. Chris Sale is scheduled to be on the mound for this one, and he has regained his place as one of the best left-handed pitchers in baseball. Sale is 14-3 with a 2.62 ERA and 187 strikeouts this year. Sale is 8-0 at home this year. Mackenzie Gore is scheduled to pitch for the Nationals, and he has 5.06 ERA on the road this year and a 9.18 ERA in his last three starts. Take the Braves to get the home win here. If you don’t have an account at Doc’s Sports sign up now and get $60 in free premium member picks click here. Free MLB Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take ‘Under’ 7.5 N.Y. Mets at San Diego (9:40 p.m., Friday, August 23)
I am now 21-9 (70%) with my last 30 free plays and we have racked up 47 of 68 wins in this space (69%). I am 92-49 (66%) with my free newsletter plays over the last 140 weeks. Blake Snell is taking the ball for the Padres, and I’m going to ride the hot hand. Honestly, Snell has probably been the best pitcher in baseball over the last six weeks. He has surrendered just six runs in his last eight starts, posting a ridiculous 1.03 ERA during that stretch. He’s thrown a no-hitter and has 55 strikeouts in his last 34 innings of work. That’s domination, and the Mets lineup doesn’t exactly strike fear into opposing pitchers. The Mets will be backing Luis Severino. He is coming off a complete game shutout. But other than that, he hasn’t been all that sharp his last few times out. It’s not like he doesn’t have the stuff to step up and have a big game, though, and if he can go five innings and only allow three runs then we should be in business here. Free NFL Preseason Prediction From Doc's Sports:
Take #113 San Francisco (-6) over Las Vegas (10 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23)
Brocky Prudy is expected to play some in this game, and the line has moved close to 3 points with that news. The 49ers have a nice quarterback rotation and will be looking to finish off the exhibition season with a winning record. The Raiders have one of the weakest quarterback’s rotations in the league, and that will be their undoing during the Regular Season. They have yet to win an exhibition game this season, and I see them struggling in this game as well. Do not miss out on Doc’s Sports weekend card, highlighted by plays in College Football, Horse Racing (Travers Stakes), and WNBA Basketball. Free MLB Prediction From Jason Sharpe:
Take Houston (+100) over Baltimore (4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24)
Two of the better teams in baseball go head-to-head in this one. Baltimore is expected to hand the baseball here to starter Trevor Rogers. The O's acquired Rogers before the trade deadline, but they've not been able to help the 26-year-old left-hander thus far. Rogers has made four starts since coming over to Baltimore, and he's been hit hard in those games, posting an ugly 7.11 ERA. Rogers will likely have his hands full here going up here against a red-hot Houston Astros team. The Astros were hovering around the .500 mark for the 2024 season just a few weeks ago. However, since August 6th they've posted the best team OPS in the league, and with that they have won 11 of their last 12 games overall. Houston is expected to go with starter Framber Valdez in this contest. Valdez has been lights out in the month of August, as he's allowed the lowest batting average against of any pitcher with 10+ innings pitched for this month. Play Houston to win this game. Free NFL Preseason Prediction From Raphael Esparza:
Take ‘Under’ 37.5 Cleveland at Seattle (9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24)
Both teams have struggled to score in Preseason football, and I was shocked that the total was posted at 37.5. The Browns scored only 12 points last weekend at home against Minnesota, and the Seahawks scored only 15 points on the road last week. Most teams just want to play this game soft and escape without any injuries, and that is why I believe this total stays under. Free MLB Prediction From Griffin Murphy:
Take Milwaukee (-1.5) over Oakland (4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25)
Milwaukee comes into this game 72-52 on the year, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and on a five-game win streak. Oakland is now 54-71 on the year, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and coming off a win. The issue for Oakland all season has been their consistency. Oakland goes on these hot streaks and then immediately falls into an extremely deep valley, which has damaged their record all season long. Oakland is 25th in baseball when it comes to offensive runs per game, 21st in runs allowed, 25th in hits, and 20th in hits allowed. Milwaukee is 9th in baseball across offensive runs per game, 2nd in runs against, and 9th in hits allowed. This is also a day game. Milwaukee is a stout 33-20 during day games, hitting 267 as a club. Oakland is 23-32 during day games and is playing way over their extension right now. They should flop again, and I expect Oakland to start reflecting their extended divergence by losing some ball games. Free NFL Futures Prediction From Robert Ferringo:
Take Philadelphia (-130) To Win NFC East
There hasn’t been a repeat champion in the NFC East in 20 years. Think about that. The Eagles won four straight titles from 2001-2004. But since then, there has been a different NFC East champion every single year. Well, I look for that trend to continue this season. Dallas is the reigning NFC East champs. But they have had a forgettable offseason in which they lost a lot more than they gained. The Cowboys are a mess on and off the field, and there is no way that they are going to match the 12-5 mark that they’ve put up each of the past three seasons. In fact, the Cowboys have only won 12 or more games in four straight seasons one time in the entire history of the franchise. That was back in the heyday of the mid-90’s when they did it from 1992-1995. The Giants and the Commanders are both in various stages of rebuilding. Both New York and Washington will be improved this year after combining to win just 10 games last season. But neither one of those teams are good enough at quarterback or have nearly enough depth to hold up for a full 17 games and to challenge for a division title. I know out-of-nowhere division winners pop up all the time in the NFL. But I can’t honestly see either the Giants or the Commanders pulling that off. So that leaves Philadelphia, easily the most talented, most experienced and deepest team in the division. The offensive line is still solid. They are stacked at the skill positions on offense. And I’m expecting a major step forward this season with Vic Fangio taking over the defense. Fangio has been a defensive coordinator for 20 seasons. And in half of those seasons he’s led a Top 10 total defense, including last year in Miami. The Eagles went 14-3 in 2022 and they started last season 10-1 so it isn’t as if expecting 12 or 13 wins is a big stretch. This team is clearly the class of the division and these odds should be closer to -180 or -200.
