Another win last week with Houston (-1.5) on Thursday and I am now 18-8 with my last 26 free plays. The Mets have gone 27-13 since the open of business on May 30, among the top marks in baseball. I think they have a chance to add to that run by beating up on the Marlins to start the second half. Miami is 12-26 since May 31 and they have the second-fewest wins in baseball. These guys just got a four-day reprieve from their nightmare of a season. How excited do you think they are going to be to come back to work and slog through these last 60-plus games? The Mets are likely going to start the second half with some version of either Severino or Quintana in these first two games. I’d back either one here. Quintana is in a bounce back situation and Severino has been nasty. It doesn’t much matter who the Marlins start. They are dead last in quality starts and No. 29 in team ERA. There is nothing to take from Boston here, as they are 54-42 on the year and 29-17 on the road. During night games, Los Angeles is dynamic, with a record of 40-28 and hitting 258 as a club. Los Angeles is in regression mode, and All-Star Break was exactly what this club needed. They went 15-11 in April, 17-10 in May, 16-10 in June, and now 4-8 in July. This is a natural sequence in my eyes. What goes up must come down. Los Angeles heads to Detroit for a nice 3-game set with an easier opponent on the road to end the break, then right back home to deal with Boston. Game 3 of the set, at home, is a night game.
