Hungary is a very underrated side heading into the Euro and head man Marco Rossi has this team firing on all cylinders heading into the tournament. They lost on an extra-time goal in their recent friendly against Ireland, but that halted a 14-match unbeaten streak. No doubt they weren’t taking that match too seriously and were using it as more of a tune up. They will come into Group A confident that they can advance to the knockout stages. They won their qualifying group easily and they have been excellent offensively. Their group includes hosts Germany and Switzerland. Germany is not even the favorite for this Euro on their home soil and this is one of the weaker sides they have fielded in major competitions. Germany and Hungary played to a draw in the last Euro group stage and the Germans haven’t beat Hungary in three straight meetings. Switzerland is favored over Hungary to advance, but this side didn’t look very good in qualifying, and we think they are vulnerable. Plus, they have not fared as well against Germany historically. Therefore, if Hungary can pull of a draw against the hosts as they did at the last Euro, that will give them a clear road to the knockout stages. We just think they are in better form than Switzerland, and Germany is definitely vulnerable as well. These teams find themselves in similar positions where they have had a bunch of injuries to deal with and they seem to come up just a little short this season. Brown got off to a brutal start to his season that has landed him an ERA of 5.58 on the season through 12 starts. However, Brown has looked much better as of late, going 6 innings in each of his last four starts while allowing just 6 earned runs over those contests, and I think he can limit the Tigers offense that has fallen flat this season. The Tigers offense has sputtered this season due to some injuries and guys underperforming from pre-season expectations, like Spencer Torkelson and Parker Meadows. Jack Flaherty has had a rejuvenated season with Detroit after struggling the past few years, as his ERA is 3.22 over 12 starts. Unfortunately, the Astros have had his number as he lost to them in each of the past two seasons, and I think it is going to be hard for him to pick up a win in this contest. Houston took two of three from Detroit earlier in the season, and I think they will pick up the win in game 1 of this series.
