The Detroit Tigers have very quietly played some decent baseball over the past few weeks, going 9-5 their last 14 games. Not much was expected from this Tigers team coming into the 2023 season and cause of that they've been a great team to bet on winning their followers close to 8 units of profits so far this year. Left-hander starter Matthew Boyd is expected to get the start in this one for the Tigers. Boyd has spent most of his career pitching for Detroit and he's been a much better pitcher at home in pitcher friendly Comerica Park where he's posted an ERA that's more a full run lower compared to elsewhere. Seattle will counter with left-hander Marco Gonzales on the hill. The Tigers have been a much better offense again this year against lefties as they come into this game hitting 24 points higher against southpaws than against right-handers. The over is 7-1 in Blue Jays last 8 overall as of Monday, and the over is 10-2 in Braves last 12 home games vs. a right-handed starter as of Monday. Take ‘Over’ 9.5 St. Louis at Boston (7 p.m., Friday, May 12)

That’s now six of seven wins in this space and I am 51-29 (64%) with my free newsletter plays over the last 80 weeks. I’m all for warm and fuzzy sports stories. And James Paxton making his first start in two years, and just his seventh start since 2019, is relatively fuzzy. That said, I don’t expect it to go great for Pax in his first start since joining the Red Sox. He had a 6.23 ERA down in Triple A. He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury. And he’s facing a Cardinals team that hits lefties pretty well. Honestly, I will be surprised if the Sox get more than three or four innings out of him. Adam Wainwright is going for the Cardinals, and he has made just one start this year as well. He allowed four runs in five innings in a loss to Detroit and is starting his final MLB season. He is kind of running on fumes, and I don’t think his junkball approach is going to work that well in Boston against this lineup. The Cardinals have a Top 10 lineup and they are 6-1 against the total in their last seven games. The Red Sox have gone ‘over’ in eight of 10, and they are averaging over six runs per game in their last 10 games. I expect both lineups to get their cuts in and for this one to get ‘over’. Corbin Burnes was not very good in his first two starts of the season, allowing 10 earned runs across 9.1 innings. Since that time, Burnes has allowed 7 earned runs over 30.1 innings, winning three out of those five starts, and I think he will lead the Brewers to a win over the Royals. Kansas City has been playing better recently, but I don’t think they will have any answers for Burnes. The Royals don’t have one regular that is batting over .300, and I think they will have a tough time stringing together hits to score runs. Milwaukee’s bats are coming around, and they tend to play better at home than they do on the road. I think they will get the job done in this matchup.
