Take Philadelphia Eagles To Win NFC East (+180)

This line is an absolute gift. Get on it now. I love everything about this Eagles team this year. That’s not me buying into the offseason hype. Honestly, with all the drama surrounding a lot of other teams I think that Philadelphia’s big offseason has actually flown under the radar. Last year, once they made the decision to become a run-based offense they really took off. They were No. 2 in the NFL (behind the No. 1 AFC seeded Titans) in rushing attempts. The other top rushing teams – the Ravens, Saints, 49ers and Colts – were also forces to be reckoned with. And with Philly’s entire offensive line back I expect them to once again be one of the top teams in the league on the ground. I think Jalen Hurts will be even better now that he’s gotten some experience. And the receiving corps, bolstered by the addition of beastly A.J. Brown, is now as good as any in the East. Defensively, this team is stacked with experienced, proven guys. The secondary is loaded. The front seven is stout. And as I look at this team I just don’t see a weakness. One of the major reasons I like the Eagles is their schedule. This slate is tailor-made for the Eagles and I will be stunned if they don’t win at least 10 games. I can’t say that about anyone else in the NFC East. The Giants are still a mess. The Commanders are a joke. And the Cowboys are primed for a major regression this season after living a charmed life in 2021. I think the Eagles are the most balanced team in the league. They aren’t rebuilding. They were a playoff team that very clearly improved in the offseason. I like Philly to win this division by at least two games and be a major player in January. The Detroit Tigers are an absolute mess so I'm looking to fade them here in this spot. The Tigers rank dead last in MLB in runs scored and offensive wRC+. They have been awful this year but I think things could get even worse as they just traded away one of their more proven hitters. On the pitching end of things the Tigers starting staff has been decimated with injuries this season and cause of that they have guys currently in their rotation who are not MLB caliber starting pitchers. One of those guys is Garrett Hill and he is expected to be on the mound for them in this one. The evidence of that comes from the fact Hill is dead last out of more than 400 pitchers in K's per 9 innings at an almost unheard of 3.81 on the season and he is also last in xERA at 7.26. So we have a combination worst offense in the game along with arguably the worst starting pitcher in baseball and all at what I think will be a reasonably cheap price to lay with the Rays. The Orioles have played some surprisingly good baseball lately and find themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot. They have played better at home as they are 9 games above .500 on the season and I think they will add to that record in this one. Dean Kramer has been a pleasant surprise for Baltimore as he owns a 3.86 ERA over 10 starts and I think he will have success against a Pirates team that has scored the fewest runs in the National League. Mitch Keller is scheduled to start for Pittsburgh and his numbers on the year are very similar whether he pitches at home or on the road and both are not great. Pittsburgh has lost four of the last five games that Keller has started and I don’t think he will have enough to slow down the momentum Baltimore has right now. Take the O’s at home in this contest. After an unbelievably hard road trip to Houston and Yankee Stadium, Seattle is back home to take on the division rival the Los Angeles Angels. Thursday’s day off can only help the Mariners who are fighting to reach the postseason for the first time since 2001. The Angels after a hot 19-11 start with many players overachieving have settled into what they are, a poor baseball team that has an outside chance to fall into the AL West basement. Robbie Ray (8-8, 4.11 ERA) is expected to take the ball for Seattle and he’s off a couple of mediocre outings against Houston and should contain the Halos offense. The Angels are expected to send out Patrick Sandoval (3-7, 3.61 ERA), who has generally pitched better than his record, though still keeps losing. All the M’s have to do is keep in close and their superior bullpen is the reason they are 24-13 in one-run outcomes and the Angels' feeble pen explains their 6-17 mark in one-score games.
