In the Bahamas Bowl, Miami (Ohio) will meet UAB in a battle of 6-6 teams in the first bowl game of the 2022 slate on Friday at 11:30 a.m. EST at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau. Interesting note in regard to UAB - Former NFL QB Trent Dilfer will be the new UAB head coach after this game and will be in attendance as a coaching assistant for the game. "I'm here to support him in the transition, to serve these young men, to serve this staff. I'm not joking -- if they send me on coffee runs, I'll go on coffee runs. ... I want to help them finish strong. I also hope to earn their trust as we go through this together, because great things are coming." We like the fact that UAB has the nation's fifth-best rushing offense, averaging 243.1 yards per game, and we think that will probably be a big factor in this game as UAB can control the time of possession and dictate the pace of the game and we like UAB to roll here as the RedHawks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win, and the Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games. Take Kansas (-5) over Indiana (Noon, Saturday, Dec. 17)

I am now 38-22 (63%) with my free plays in this space over the last 60 weeks. I’ll jump on the Jayhawks in this one. Kansas has been crushing opponents ever since taking its first loss on Nov. 25 against Tennessee. The Jayhawks are coming off a 26-point win over Seton Hall and a 28-point win at Missouri. I don’t think it will be quite that ugly in this one against the Hoosiers. However, Indiana has flopped in its two biggest road tests, losing by 15 at Rutgers and by 14 against Arizona in Las Vegas last week. I have to see Indiana do something on the road before I can trust them. Phog Allen is one of the toughest venues in college sports for road teams to win. I think Kansas is going to be ready to go, and I see another double-digit win for the Jayhawks. Free College Football Prediction From Doug Upstone:

Take SMU (-5.5) over BYU (7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17)

The New Mexico Bowl features a couple of 7-5 teams that started the year with higher aspirations. This game will be in prime time on ABC at 7:30 ET and as will be the case with many bowls the odds have changed fast and furiously. BYU opened as a one-point favorite with a total of 74, now the Cougars are +5.5 with the adjusted total at 64.5. Why you ask, BYU starting QB Jalen Hall suffered a severe ankle injury in BYU’s last contest. Though no official word has been made on his status, a report emerged that an unnamed Cougar player said it would “take a miracle” for Hall to play. That, and the loss of 2nd leading tackler Keenan Pili, leaves BYU thin at LB. As for the total’s huge drop, SMU’s leading receiver, Rashee Rice, won’t play with a toe and is getting ready for the NFL. Rice caught 96 balls for 1355 yards and 10 touchdowns. So that’s a significant blow for SMU. At least the Mustangs still have QB Tanner Mordecai under center. As a senior, he threw 31 touchdowns and 9 interceptions with over 3,300 yards passing. No question that Rice will be missed, but the roster is loaded with fast receivers. SMU was 5th in passing nationally. And against a BYU secondary that is not fast, big plays will be available. With or without Hall, look for the Cougars to attack SMU’s 121st run defense, which could also help them to keep the SMU offense off the field. In terms of desire, I’ll say SMU, who missed the last two years with Covid complications, should be excited. At the current numbers, I’ll say the Mustangs 42-35 with a fourth-quarter score and the OVER. Take 'Over' 44.5 Detroit at New York Jets (1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18)

The total in this game has dropped enough from the opener that it has opened some nice line value at this current price. The Detroit Lions come into this game averaging 32 points per game on offense in their last five games, and combined with their opponents they've averaged 55 points a game in those last five contests. The New York Jets may be without one of their top defensive players in Quinnen Williams, who was injured last game and when he went out the Jets defense didn't look the same at all. The Jets scored just 12 points last week at Buffalo, but the conditions in that game were brutal. They've played in three other games this season where they've put up 15 points or less, and New York came back the following game and responded by scoring 24+ points each time while averaging 29 PPG, and they also went above the total in each of those three contests. The big variable most are worried about here in this one is the weather in New York this time of the year, but the extended forecast for this upcoming weekend shows it's going to be sunny and highs around 40 degrees.
