Take Maryland over Michigan State (6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 10)

These teams just hooked up last Sunday, with Michigan State winning 77-67 and covering by four points.  Michigan State scored the first 14 points of the game and never trailed. Malik Hall led with 17 points and Tyson Walker had 13 points and five assists for the Spartans (20-11, 11-9 Big Ten) in the regular-season finale for both teams. Marcus Bingham had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Gabe Brown added 10 points and Julius Marble chipped in eight. Eric Ayala had 19 points and six rebounds for the Terrapins (15-16, 7-13). Fatts Russell supplied 16 points and four assists, while Donta Scott added 13 points. We suspect Maryland will be an active dog here and get out to a better start. In fact, if they had not been down 18-1 at one point, they might have even covered this game as they played great down the stretch. Chicago and Cleveland have been scuffling the last couple of weeks. The Bulls’ problems are defensively related, not giving the effort needed, especially against the better teams, which has caused them to fall in the Eastern Conference standings. Cleveland’s situation is different, directly caused by injuries. The Cavaliers overcame the losses of Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio early, but in the last month, leading scorer Darius Garland has been in and out of the lineup. Next came a great trade for Caris LeVert, who is out indefinitely, and over the weekend, the Cavs top big man Jarrett Allen is now also out for an unknown time with a finger injury. That’s a lot to overcome with so many key players missing, and with Chicago 24-10 and 22-12 ATS at home, they win and cover Saturday night.
