McClanahan has been dynamite on the road this season, going 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA over 5 starts while holding opponents to a .150 batting average. McClanahan has been even better recently, though, going 8-1 over his last 11 starts allowing just 10 earned runs, and I think he can have his way with a Cincinnati lineup that has struggled to produce all season long. Luis Castillo will be on the mound for the Reds, and he could be moved before the trade deadline. He hasn’t pitched great at Cincinnati this year, as he is 1-1 with a 4.18 ERA across 5 starts. And with how patient the Rays lineup can be, I think he will be in trouble. The Reds have the second worst home record in all of baseball, and I think they will take another loss in this one. Take Atlanta (-1.5) over Washington (7 p.m., Friday, July 8)

After a slow start to the season, Atlanta has surged to within a few games of the first-place New York Mets in the NL East. The Braves will have three chances to possibly further close the gap against the Metropolitans, facing last-place Washington three times at home. In the series opener, Atlanta is expected to use right-hander Charlie Morton, who is 4-3 with a 4.34 ERA. After a very poor start, Morton has gotten into a groove, permitting just four runs in four starts covering 26 2/3 innings, fanning 35, and walking only 5. Washington’s anticipated starter, Erick Fedde (5-5, 4.29 ERA), has pitched better recently but is susceptible to a bad outing at any point. With Atlanta 49-27 against the run line vs. an NL team with a batting average of .255 or worse in the second half of the season, the Bravos on the RL is the best value. The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to go with starter Tarik Skubal in this one. Skubal is having an excellent season in 2022, ranking in the top 15 in the league in both FIP and xFIP (80 IP minimum). The 25-year-old left-hander is currently undervalued as his ERA-FIP has the 4th biggest positive differential in MLB. There was lots of optimism going into the 2022 season for this young Detroit Tigers team, but they've been a major disappointment due to historically bad offensive numbers. Things started to change, though, and in a big way for Detroit when they called up top 5 MLB prospect Riley Greene to the major leagues on June 18th as the rookie centerfielder has given their offense a much-needed shot in the arm. Since Greene has joined the team, the Tigers have posted the 2nd best team batting average in the league, nearly 60 points higher than before Greene was called up. With their ace on the hill and a much-improved offense, the underdog Tigers offer lots of value in this contest. Take Detroit in this game. The Nats are 45-95 in their last 140 games, and they are just 15-57 in their last 72 divisional games.
