Yes, this play can seem like an overreaction play, but it's more about the number than it is about Minnesota losing to Detroit and the Steelers beating the Ravens. Neither of these teams looked good last weekend and neither have really looked good this year, but we have to take advantage of the number here. Pittsburgh has some motivation coming into this game, and Minnesota has none. Not only did the Vikings lose to the Lions, but they now come into this game off a short week and possibly without one of their best weapons in Adam Thielen. The Vikings will get a boost from their home crowd, but in the end it won't be enough to cover this line. We wouldn't be opposed to laying some money on the Steelers money line (+155) either. Syracuse is bad. Georgetown is worse. The Hoyas have a very young, very raw squad, and they have already taken really bad losses to Dartmouth (at home) and St. Joe’s. They also got hammered by a mediocre South Carolina side last Sunday. Syracuse has been extremely sketchy. But they do have solid wins over Indiana and Florida State, and their game against Villanova was much closer than the final score suggested. Syracuse beat a much better Georgetown team last season, and they have won three of the last four meetings between these two. Look for the Orange to find a way to get this one. Take Penn State (+12) over Michigan State (2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11)

I will take the points in this game. This is not one of Tom Izzo’s better teams. Michigan State plays hard, and Izzo has another tough team that is good at rebounding and defense. I think that this team is going to have a hard time covering big spreads like this in conference play. The Spartans still turn the ball over a lot, and they are just 2-3 ATS in their last five games overall. Penn State is coming off back-to-back losses, and they have lost three of four games overall. The Nittany Lions are already 0-1 in conference play, and they will want to fight hard to avoid going 0-2. Penn State is 3-0 ATS in its last three road games against the Spartans. The Nittany Lions only lost by two points on the road in this game last year, and they beat Michigan State in Lansing in 2020. I see another competitive game here. Take the points. Take #104 Army (-7.5) over Navy (3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11)

After years of success under coach Ken Niumatalolo, the Navy has suffered its second straight losing season and three in the past four. At least the Middies are competitive with a point spread involved at 7-2 ATS, after an 0-2 spread start. Upsetting the Army at least puts a bow on a mediocre 3-8 year. Besides a super 8-3 season, Army has locked up the Commander-in-Chief trophy for a second consecutive year. Despite the Navy’s quality ATS record, Army will not be lax like the AAC’s top teams Cincinnati, Houston and SMU were in failing to cover versus the Navy. The Black Knights have won four of five (3-2 ATS) after losing 14 in a row to the Navy, as their superior run game and defense provide the difference.
