Prior to that, he had only allowed 1 HR in his last 5 starts. Every game is important now with the Dodgers loading up at the deadline, so facing the lowly D-backs should get him back on the right track. Kelly takes the mound for the struggling Dbacks. He gave up 8 hits and 3 ER in his last start also vs. the Dodgers. The last time he faced the Giants, he gave up 7 hits, 3 ER, and 2 HR, so he likely pitches better today vs. the Giants. The Indians are just 5-11 in their last 16 road games and 7-17 against teams that are above .500. The Blue Jays have gotten a boost from being back in their home stadium. The Cincinnati Reds are in pursuit of Milwaukee for the top of the NL Central. As this went to print, the Reds were seven games behind the Brewers. That’s not an impossible number for Cincy to catch the Brew Crew, but not an easy one, either. The Reds should set their sights on San Diego for the last Wild Card spot, at only three games back. Cincinnati can put pressure on the Padres by facing lowly Pittsburgh four times at home. In Game 2, I like Wade Miley (8-4, 2.92 ERA) over the Pirates J.T. Brubaker (4-10, 4.49). Miley saved his career learning how to use a cutter, which made all of his pitches better with the variety. Brubaker is 1-6 on the road with a 5.49 ERA, and earlier in the week the Bucs were a miserable 17-36 on the road and 11-30 in their division. Ride the Reds! Lance Lynn has been really good on the road this year, going 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA over 7 starts and facing a different Cubs lineup bodes well for him. Lynn is 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA over his last 5 starts, and I think he can deliver another win for the White Sox. Albert Alzolay has been in a funk, and the Cubs haven’t fared well when he has been on the mound lately. The Cubs are 1-8 in Alzolay’s last 9 starts, and he has allowed fewer than 3 runs just once in those outings. Take the White Sox in this matchup.
