I’m really excited for the college basketball season to start up. I think that I am ready for a major upswing, and I think that we are going to have a killer November and December. It is going to be kind of a mess – with games constantly being postponed and rearranged – but my system should ensure a lot of winning action regardless. As for this game: better team, better conference. George Mason has all five starters back and seven of their top nine guys from a team that started out last year 11-1. They had some nice wins early last year, taking out Old Dominion, Nebraska and New Mexico State. These guys are improved. And I think that they are going to be ready to go. That continuity is huge for this team. Northeastern lost its two best players, Jordan Roland and Bolden Brace. Roland averaged 22 points per game last year and bailed that offense out a lot. Bill Coen teams are always disciplined and well-coached. They are going to take a step back this season as they rebuild. This is going to be a low-scoring game, for sure, but I think that Mason has enough savvy in its backcourt to close this game down in the last five minutes, and they should get past this number easily. Take #154 UAB (-20) over Southern Miss (12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 27)

This has not been the season UAB expected at 4-3. The Blazers' running game is as potent as ever at 207 yards per game and 5.2 yards a carry. What changed UAB’s fortunes was QB Tyler Johnson III suffering a shoulder injury. At first, backup Bryson Lucero came in and played well. As the season wore on, the freshman lost confidence and now has more interceptions than touchdown passes (7 vs. 8). With the Blazers’ offense having 11 turnovers in their past four contests, that put the defense on the defensive and the team has dropped two straight and is on 1-3 ATS downer. However, that could change quickly against Southern Miss, who is 2-7. UAB under coach Bill Clark is 18-9 ATS at home. And while the oddsmakers have caught up to his team, the Blazers are 9-1 ATS, having lost two of three. UAB fits a strong system of mine that reads this way. Play On home teams (UAB) after 7+ games, who rush for 190-230 YPG, against an average rushing team (140-190 YPG), after allowing 100 or less rushing yards in last outings. They have scored 40 points per game over their last two, and if they hit the high twenties in this game then it should easily go over the posted total. These two teams have played over the posted total in 5 straight games. Indiana has gone over the posted total in 20 of their last 28 Big Ten games. Take #191 Maryland +11.5 over Indiana. (Noon, Saturday, Nov. 28)

Indiana is riding an emotional loss, their first of the season, last week as Ohio State was able to pull away for a 42-35 win. They had won their first four of the season, cruising past Michigan State 24-0 and Michigan 38-21. They also beat then #8 Penn State to open in season in overtime. They now play a 2-1 Maryland side that has not played since November 7 when they beat Penn St 25-19. They needed overtime to get pass Minnesota 45-44 after opening the season where they fell 42-3 to Northwestern. Since that loss, they have pulled it together and are now averaging nearly 430 ypg. The key for Maryland to keep this one close is for their defense to force a few 3 and outs and flip the field. They need to give some more support to a strong offense. Indiana’s defensive backfield is their weak point and one I really feel Maryland can exploit. Expect Indiana to come out flat after their loss to Ohio State. Maryland has to take advantage of this and get ahead early so this does not get away from them as the Northwestern game did. Carolina is coming off a dominating 20-0 win over Detroit last week. This Panthers team played well behind backup P.J. Walker, and I think that he will have even more success against this weak Minnesota defense. The Vikings may be without Adam Thielen because he is on the COVID list this week. That would be a major blow to their offense. The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog and they are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on the road. The Vikings are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a home favorite, and the underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings between these two teams. I think that the Panthers are the stronger team in this one, and I think that they will get another outright win here. Take the points.
