Let’s get the New Year started with a winner. This game really should be a blowout. Rodney Terry continues to build up his program at El Paso and he has a pretty solid core to work with this year. The other loss was against St. Mary’s, so this is their first game against a team not ranked in the Top 75. Southern Miss is not good at all. They were blown out 58-38 by a weak Tulane team and also have losses to Jacksonville and South Alabama. This is the first Top 200 team that the Golden Eagles have taken on, and I don’t expect it to go well. A weaker UTEP team beat Southern Miss by 12 points and 19 points in two games last year, and I don’t see any reason why it would be any closer this time around. On the other side of things, many might ask what's in this meaningless game for the Minnesota Vikings, but keep in mind head coach Mike Zimmer has been one of the best coaches in the NFL during his tenure in the NFL preseason. The favorite is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings, and Tennessee is 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against teams that are below .500.
