Take 'Over' 9.5 Toronto at Boston (7 p.m., Thursday, April 11)

The Red Sox just can't get anyone out right now. Their team ERA is well over 6.00, and they have been terrible as a staff from top to bottom. Boston has played 'over' in nine of their 12 games to start the season, and I don't really see that changing any time soon. In fact, I think they will be a solid 'over' play over the next few weeks because I don't feel like their offense has been performing at the level that it should be so high-scoring games should be the norm, especially in Fenway. After a day off Wednesday, Boston will give the ball to Nathan Eovaldi, and he has been terrible in two starts. The fact is that Eovaldi just isn't a very good pitcher. He caught lightning in a bottle with the Red Sox last year (and really so did everyone on this championship team), but now he is coming back down to reality. If you kick out his work with the Red Sox, Eovaldi's ERA is around 4.45 over the past five years. Toronto's lineup hasn't been scoring. But a lot of that has to do with a tough series in Cleveland against the Indians' exceptional pitching staff. I think the Blue Jays will be able to throw up four runs in this one and that should help get it 'over'. I am off to a strong start to the season, and I am going to keep it going this week. I am looking at the Red Sox in this one because I think that this team needs a win. This team will be very focused in this game. Nathan Eovaldi needs a good start. He has allowed nine runs in 10 innings over his two starts. I think he will be much better at home. Eovaldo went 11-3 with a 3.33 ERA for the Red Sox last season. Toronto is just 4-8 on the year, and they have not been any better than the Red Sox while posting the No. 29 scoring team in baseball. We are rolling with the under here as we expect both teams to be motivated to pitch well here today in this division rivalry. Jose Quintana looks to have a big bounce-back start and should be motivated to do well here today after getting shelled for 8 runs in 8 innings, along with giving up 3 HR. Quintana was 7-4 at home last year and prefers to pitch at night as he held a 2.71 ERA in night games vs. 5.13 ERA in day games. In a three-year span, his ERA is 1.5 runs less in night games. Joe Musgrove looks to build off his success in his first start of the season, going 7 innings, 8 Ks and only 3 hits allowed. Last season Musgrove had two starts vs the Cubs, going 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings. The Cubs pitching has not been great to start the year and needs to turn around as they can't keep relying on their offense to carry them all the way. The Giants have yet to win a series, and they lost three of their first round of home games. Chad Bettis has gotten off to a terrible start and has an ERA of nearly 12.00. He is due for a big outing, and I think he will get it here. Bettis has a decent 4.29 ERA in his career in San Francisco, and I think he will be able to slow down this struggling lineup.
