Take #251 N.Y. Jets (-1.5) over N.Y. Giants (7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8)

We went 2-0 last week with our NFL Preseason plays, nailing the 'under' in this very space (as well as with my rated plays) and cashing with the Broncos. Let's keep it going this week! As for this play, I generally like to stay out of the Battle for New York as this preseason series has featured some wild games. But there is too much pointing toward the Jets here. How long has it been since the Jets were the better team in New York? That appears to be the case here as the Giants are facing a complete rebuild. New York doesn't have much talent - at all - and anyone decent is probably going to rest. We likely won't see Eli Manning or Saquon Barkley. And given the Giants' massive injury issues at wide receiver, I don't know how this team plans to generate any offense. The Giants have 18 first-year players on their first three strings, twice as many as the nine rookies the Jets are likely going to feature with their starters, backups and third string. The Jets have a major advantage over a Giants team that is going to feature so many guys making their NFL Preseason debuts. The Jets also have an edge at quarterback. Trevor Siemian is a former starter, and Davis Webb is a preseason stud that would love nothing more than to ring up some numbers against his former team. On top of that, new head coach Adam Gase is going to be motivated to get that first win as the leader of the Jets. He wasn't a popular choice to take over for the Jets. So, he is going to want to build up some goodwill with a solid showing here in his backyard. I think the Jets are more motivated, deeper, and more experienced. We'll go Green. What a turn around for the Giants as they were the hottest team in July and they have carried that over into August. The hot turn around helped them decide to keep Bumgarner at the deadline vs. trading him. They find themselves tied with the D-backs for 2.5 games back of the second wild card spot. The Giants are 20-9 their last 29 games. Bumgarner loves pitching at home as he has a 3.32 ERA at home vs. a 4.64 ERA on the road. Nola will pitch for the Phillies as these two aces hook up, but the Phillies have a -21 run differential and struggle to stay consistent. We saw them last weekend lose a series at home to a bottom-tier team like the White Sox. This is why they will likely miss the playoffs despite all the stars on their team. Their offense simply is not consistent and struggles against elite pitchers. Nola does his best work at home where he has a 3.07 ERA vs. a 4.57 ERA on the road. Bumgarner and the Giants would love nothing more then to send Bochy off with a playoff run before he retires. We have seen them do this before in their World Series years.
