I refuse to believe that Noah Syndergaard has completely fallen apart. He is off to a dreadful start to the season, to be sure. However, his velocity is still very high, and his 6.35 ERA is the result of a bit of bad luck thanks to a .379 BABIP. I expect him to finally snap out of it on Thursday afternoon against the Reds. Cincinnati is countering with Tyler Mahle, who has gone 'under' in all five of his starts this year and who has been perfectly average. The Mets will have a skeleton lineup since it is a series finale day game following a Wednesday night game. Both teams will have the 'B' teams on the field, and that should lead to lower scoring. The 'under' is 21-4 in Cincinnati's last 25 road games, and the 'under' is 36-13 in their last 49 games overall. I think that this total will be posted high because of the starters' ERAs. The last time that these two teams played, the Nationals won a series in in Philadelphia. Jerad Eickhoff got off to a late start to the season, but he has been very good. He has a 2.12 ERA and 20 strikeouts in just 17 innings of work. Philadelphia is 11-5 in their 16 home games this season and they have won four of their last five games. Look for the Phillies to get a blowout win in the first game of this weekend series. Take #923 Toronto (+125) over Texas (8 p.m., Friday, May 3)

The Toronto Blue Jays recently brought up super prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and it looks like he gave them a big boost as they swept the Oakland A's over the weekend. Guerrero looks to be a generational type talent and someone who should greatly improve this Toronto team. The Blue Jays hand the baseball here to 25-year-old Trent Thornton in this one. The rookie right-hander got off to a very good start to this season in his first two games posting a sub-2.00 ERA and averaging more than 12 strikeouts per 9 innings. He struggled in his next three outings, though, but was sharp in his last start, allowing just 1 earned run while striking out 7 in 5 innings of work. The Texas Ranges counter here with Mike Minor. The 31-year-old veteran left-hander is off to a nice start this season with a solid 2.88 ERA, but I'm not really buying into him, especially with a decent-sized price tag that I expect to be attached to him to in this matchup. Minor has been a below average starting pitcher for most of his career and a guy who gives up his share of home runs. That could be an issue pitching here in Texas where he allowed 16 of his 25 home runs last season. The Blue Jays offer some nice value here as an underdog. Take Toronto in this one.
