Take 'Over' 8.0 Atlanta at Miami (7 p.m., Thursday, May 10)

Last week's free play flew over the total with the Angels and Orioles playing a 12-3 game. I'm looking for another totals winner here in the opener of this four-game set. The Braves haven't announced their starter yet, but I suspect it will be Mike Foltynewicz. Folty has been great to start the season. He's actually been a little too good. I suspect the beginning of his regression started his last time out when he gave up six runs in five innings to the Giants. I think he's going to struggle here as well. Miami is going with Caleb Smith. I think that this guy has been pitching way over his head. He has back-to-back shutouts. But he's also the guy that gave up 12 runs in his first 15 innings this year and has a 5.09 career ERA in the Majors. Atlanta has been very good against lefties this season, and I think that they will be able to scratch out four runs against Smith and get into the Marlins bullpen, which is one of the worst in the league. The Braves have gone 'over' in five of their last six series openers, and I think that these division rivals will get their cuts in against one another. I like Atlanta to get this win, and I think they will do so somewhere in the range of a 7-3 game. Take 'Over' 9.0 Kansas City at Cleveland (4 p.m., Friday, May 11)

It looks like this game will be between starters Jason Hammel for Kansas City and Adam Plutko for Cleveland. Neither team has announced their starter, but that's who I am expecting. Plutko made his first career start against Toronto last week. He pitched great. He made it into the eighth inning, and Cleveland won 13-4. But I think that he is going to struggle in his second start. Kansas City has one of the lowest-scoring offenses in baseball. But they have been improving. The Royals are averaging 5.2 runs over their last nine games. Jason Hammel has not been good for the Royals. He has a 4.78 ERA and has given up at least three runs in three straight starts. He shut out Cleveland on April 8. But I think the Indians will have a lot more luck against him this time around. Hammel has a 7.00 ERA in his last three starts and a 5.47 ERA on the road. Atlanta is the highest-scoring team in the National League right now, and they have had no problems scoring runs when Brandon McCarthy has been on the mound. McCarthy has been hittable himself as he will bring an ERA of 4.84 into Friday's matchup with the Marlins, who are finally healthy. He has allowed 6 earned runs while not making it past the fourth inning in either of his starts so far this season. He allowed 14 runs (12 earned) in three starts against Atlanta last year, and the Braves lineup is much improved from a season ago. I think the line will be around 8 or 9 for this matchup, with the final run total being in double digits. Take 'Under' New York Mets at Philadelphia (4 p.m., Saturday, May 12)
Noah Syndergaard gets the ball on Saturday in Philadelphia against a hot Phillies team. The Phils are near the top of the league in run scored, but I don't expect it to last. They have a lot of young guys that are exceeding expectations, and the pitchers around baseball are going to start figuring out their weaknesses. Syndergaard is putting up his usual dominant numbers. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in a game since Opening Day. Philadelphia is scheduled to go with Zach Eflin on Saturday. Eflin has put up eye-popping numbers in limited action this season, and he's flying under the radar right now. The Mets are starting to have trouble scoring runs after a hot start, so I think Eflin should be able to shut them down. The Mariners have hit .299 as a team lifetime against Happ with an OBP of .356 and slugging percentage of .523. Happ has an ERA of 3.90 at home this season, allowing 5 homeruns over his 5 starts at Rogers Centre. Happ threw 108 pitches in his last start, which was the most by him this season, and he lasted just 5.2 innings. Only 5 of the Jays have ever faced Leake before, and they hit him hard, batting .345 against him over 58 combined at bats, and Leake also threw a season high 108 pitches in his last start that lasted just 5.1 innings. Leake has an ERA of 8.79 on the road this season with opponents hitting .344 against him, and the Jays have hit the most homeruns in MLB this season.
