Take 'Over' 8.5 Baltimore at L.A. Angels (10 p.m., Thursday, May 3)
Our free pick winning streak finally came to an end last week. But I'm ready to start another one right here as a lead-in to a huge weekend. I will have my 8-Unit NBA Game of the Year on Saturday and I will also have my Kentucky Derby picks primed and ready for that day as well. I have picked the winner at The Derby seven of the last eight years, and I am looking for some major cash this weekend. In this free play I see some runs coming from two struggling offenses. The Orioles have one of the worst lineups in baseball, averaging just 3.5 runs per game. But they have averaged 5.0 runs in their last five games, and that will help. The Angels were held to just five runs in their series with the Yankees, and they have scored just 2.6 runs per game over their last 10. But there is too much pop there for the Angels to continue to struggle and they should feast on Chris Tillman. Tillman is coming off a very rare competent outing, throwing seven innings of one-hit ball last Friday. Prior to that he had a 9.88 ERA on the season and had allowed 30 runs in just 31 innings over his previous nine outings. Garrett Richards is in line to start for the Angels. He is coming off his worst start of the year, giving up nine runs in less than two innings to the Yankees. Richards somehow gave up nine runs despite allowing just five hits and three walks thanks to errors by his mates. Richards has a 4.88 ERA on the season, and he isn't all the way back from his arm injuries. I can see both teams getting their cuts in and this one pushing 'over'. The Jays have hit just .237 as a team lifetime against Carrasco with an OBP of .274, and Carrasco has pitched solid this season with an ERA of 3.08 and a WHIP of just 0.95. Opponents have hit just .206 against Carrasco at home this season and just .213 against Carrasco overall this season. Opponents have hit .280 against Garcia this season, and he has an ERA of 5.91 on the road. Garcia got rocked in his last start, and I expect the Indians to give Carrasco plenty of run support Thursday afternoon. Take Detroit over Kansas City (2 p.m., Thursday, May 3)
These two pitchers have actually faced each other earlier this year, and we like the Tigers to come out on top with the better pitcher today in Fiers. Remember, Fiers comes off a 0-6 loss to Baltimore in his last game and has to be irritated from that loss considering he has pitched 3 of 4 quality starts. As he comes off a loss and with the Tigers team with a much more consistent offense this year than the Royals, and as Skoglund comes off a rare quality start against the Whites and due for a letdown, let's roll with the Tigers on the road here. Prior to that start Skoglund had given up 14 runs in 15 innings and 18 hits with 5 walks (23 baserunners in 15 innings), so look for the Tigers to roll here with the more consistent pitcher and substantially better batting lineup today as the Tigers are 10th in the league in batting average whereas the Royals are dismal right now in every category on offense in the Major Leagues. Take New York Yankees over Cleveland (7 p.m. Friday, May 4)
Cleveland had high expectations coming into this season, and fortunately for them they play in the American League Central. The Indians are the only team in the AL Central with a winning record, but they are struggling to score runs. Cleveland has scored the 13th-fewest runs in the American League so far this season, and scoring runs off of C.C. Sabathia hasn't been easy recently. Sabathia has allowed just one earned run over his last three starts (17.1 innings), with the Yankees winning all three of those contests. New York, on the other hand, has had no problems scoring runs as they lead the majors in runs scored even with Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton batting .208 and .239, respectively. Josh Tomlin is scheduled to be on the bump for the Indians, and he has been brutal so far this season. Tomlin has allowed more earned runs (19) than innings pitched (18.2), and he is still in search of his first win of the season. I think the Yankees will be able to score off Tomlin and take the first game of this series. Free NBA Basketball Prediction From Allen Eastman :
Take New Orleans over Golden State (8 p.m., Friday, May 4)
I am going to take the points in this game. I think that New Orleans will be able to compete with the Warriors when they get Golden State on their own gym. The Pelicans are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and they are just 18-6 ATS in their last 24 games against teams in the Western Conference. I think that Anthony Davis is going to have his best game of the series, and this is a game that the Pelicans could win. New Orleans is just 1-9 SU in their last 10 games against the Warriors. But they are 5-4 ATS in the last nine in the series and they beat the Warriors on the road back on April 7. Golden State is just 5-5 ATS in its last 10 games overall and just 4-12 ATS after a win. I think that the public is going to overreact to Steph Curry's return. It will take him some games to get back into things. I will go the other way and look for the Pelicans to cover here. Free MLB Baseball Prediction From Doc's Sports :
Take 'Under' Chicago Cubs at St. Louis (2 p.m., Saturday, May 5)
One of the best rivalries in baseball takes place in St. Louis this weekend when the Cardinals host the Cubs. Saturday's matchup features Tyler Chatwood and Luke Weaver on the mound, and I like both of these starters quite a bit. Chatwood was someone we were high on to start the season because Coors Field masked some pretty effective pitching last year (3.49 road ERA). Chatwood owns a 2.83 ERA so far in 2018, and he has the highest strikeout rate of his career at 8.5 batters per nine innings. His numbers are going to regress a little from here, but I still think Chatwood is undervalued. Weaver doesn't have great numbers this season, but he's been unfortunate with a low strand rate. His FIP is in the mid-3's, and he can be a legitimate No. 2 starter in the Cards rotation. Both the Cubs and Cardinals have been inconsistent at the plate in 2018. I think these starting pitchers can keep the opposing offenses at bay, and I trust in both bullpens to back them up. Play the UNDER between the Cubs and Cardinals as our Saturday Free Play selection.
