ROBERT FERRINGO is looking for a bounce-back week on the gridiron after a tough backdoor beat on his top play on Monday night. Take Auburn (-10) over Connecticut (2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23)
We scored an easy newsletter winner last week with USC hammering Santa Clara by 23, and I think we will see a similar situation here. Connecticut is not a good basketball team. At all. They needed overtime for home wins against bad teams like Columbia and Monmouth. And they were noncompetitive in their games against other power six conference members like Michigan State, Arkansas and Syracuse. This is a true road game, and Auburn was actually good enough to go to Storrs and beat the Huskies (in overtime) last year. And while Connecticut is obviously having another down season, they are still a big name. And that name will be enough to fire up Bruce Pearl and the Auburn faithful. Pearl knows he needs to generate excitement whenever and wherever he can at this football-crazed school. So, again, it doesn't matter that the Huskies are down; Pearl is going to have his guys whipped up into a frenzy. The Tigers are a different team at home and they feed off their crowd. Connecticut doesn't handle pressure well, and they don't have the size on the interior to make Auburn pay for playing small. Auburn is shaky as hell. And I can see them getting up big early and then blowing a huge lead by letting Connecticut go on like a 14-2 run. Take #101 Indianapolis (+13.5) over Baltimore (4:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23)
I took a push with my 7-Unit NFL 411 System Play last Sunday, but I expect to get a big win this Sunday with my next NFL 411 System Play. Before that game I think that this is a great opportunity to cash in with the Colts. This is too many points for the Ravens to lay. They have covered three straight games, but the Ravens offense has struggled for most of the year and they don't score often enough to beat a number this big. The Colts are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Ravens, and they are 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to Baltimore. The Ravens are just 4-10 ATS at home against a team with a losing record, and they are just 4-9 ATS following a win of two touchdowns or more. The Colts have played teams tough all year. They are on a five-game losing streak, but only one of those losses was by more than 12 points. I think the Colts will be able to do enough to keep this game close and cover this inflated number, scoring a win for the sportsbooks and for me in the process. Take 'Over' Atlanta at New Orleans (1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 24)
Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet when the Atlanta Falcons hit the road to take on the Saints at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA, on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons have posted a perfect 4-0-1 record to the over in their last five road games where they faced a team with a winning record at home, and they have gone an excellent 15-6-1 to the over in their last 22 games following a straight up win over the past two-plus seasons. The Saints have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here on Sunday as they have gone up and over the number in six of their last seven games following an ATS loss, and they are an impressive 15-5-1 to the over in their last 21 home games.
