Take Baltimore (-125) over Detroit (7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3)
It's been a great summer on the diamond, and I have no intensions of slowing down over the final three months of the season. I have banked +$12,400 in profit for my clients over the last three months, and I will continue to press as we come down the stretch. Don't forget that football packages are available now, and I am working toward making it 9 of 11 winning Augusts on the gridiron. As for this free play, the Tigers are on borrowed time. They didn't blow up the team by trading Miguel Cabrera or Justin Verlander, but this team also knows that it isn't going to make the playoffs this year so I expect wild fluctuations in their level of play. They faced Houston over the weekend then went to the Bronx for a set against the Yankees. That means they are primed for a letdown here in a trip down to Baltimore against the desperate Orioles. Matt Boyd has been 'better' since coming back from the minors. But he has still given up at least three runs in 10 straight starts and he has a 5.30 ERA on the season. The Orioles lit him up for seven runs in just over two innings the last time they saw him back on May 16, and I think they will hit him hard here as well. The Orioles are 6-2 in their last eight home games and the Tigers are just 2-5 against teams that are above .500. Take 'Under' Los Angeles at New York Mets (7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5)
I have been getting the job done again in the MLB this year, and I am working my way to 8 of 9 winning years on the diamond. Take 'Over' 58.0 Winnipeg vs. Ottawa (7 p.m., Friday, August 4)
Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hit the road to take on the Redblacks at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa, ON on Friday night. The Blue Bombers have posted a perfect 9-0 record to the over in their last nine road games and they have gone an excellent 8-3 to the over in their last 11 games following a straight up win. The Redblacks have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here on Friday as they have gone up and over the number in each of their last four games following a bye week and they are 6-2 to the over in their last eight home games. Throw in the fact that the Redblacks are also 7-3-1 to the over following a game where they covered the spread while Winnipeg is 14-3 to the over in their last 17 games overall going back to the middle of the 2016 season, and that's where we'll have our Newsletter Free Play as we expect both teams to have trouble getting defensive stops in Ottawa on Friday night. Martin Perez has been better than Colon, but that's not saying much as he has struggled this season as well. Texas were big sellers at the trade deadline as they got rid of Yu Darvish and Jonathan Lucroy while Minnesota made some moves of their own. Take 'Under' New York Yankees at Cleveland (1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5)
The New York Yankees made some big moves before the trade deadline. But what may have been overlooked is how deep their bullpen is now after the acquisitions. David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle (both from the White Sox) are great additions to a bullpen that has already been dominant with Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances, Adam Warren and more. In fact, the Yankees have the third best bullpen ERA in the American League, and it should continue to improve. One of the teams with an even more effective opponent is the Cleveland Indians. They have a team bullpen ERA below 3.00, led by Andrew Miller and Cody Allen. Bullpens don't always getting fully reflected into the lines. As a result, I think we'll see a lot more UNDERS in Yankees games going forward, and the same goes for the Tribe. Runs will be hard to come by, so take the UNDER in our Saturday Free Play selection. Take Detroit Lions 'Over' 8.0 Wins
The Detroit Lions were a 9-4 football team last season after 13 games. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was having his 2nd straight career year at that point of the season and was in the running for league MVP when he injured his finger and had to play the rest of the year with a splint on his throwing finger, greatly effecting the way he played down the stretch. The Lions also lost their two best offensive lineman and their top two running backs during this time and so they ended the year a very quiet 9-7 overall. To succeed in the NFL you must have above-average quarterback play as that means you're never out of a game, and last year Stafford once again guided the Lions to a bunch of big 4^th -quarter comebacks. General manager Bob Quinn has done a fantastic job in Detroit and enters his 3rd season in control. He made some sound under-the-radar moves again this past offseason as the Lions signed two of the top free agent offensive lineman and now boast one of the better offensive lines in the league. I like this strategy as solid offensive line play has been one of the best ways for a team to build a winner in today's NFL since the new 'CBA' came into effect in 2011. The Lions once again match up well against their NFL North foes (who they play 6 of 16 times this year) as they've went 15-9 overall against them the last four years. Both the Bears and Vikings lack quality QB play, and that's the best way to attack a below-average Lions defense. Take Cody Kessler (-160) As Cleveland Browns Week 1 Starting QB
Brock Osweiler is +130, Deshone Kizer +800, Kevin Hogan +1600, and the Field is +800, and I don't see any of these option taking the number one QB at Browns camp. I'm hearing that Brock Osweiler will most likely get released and rookie QB Kiser is just not ready for the job. I'm actually a bit shocked that Kessler is not -200 or higher, so I would highly recommend jumping on this short price.
