Take Boston over New York Yankees (7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11)
I have been on fire in MLB. I've banked $6,500 over the last few months, and I am working on making it 7 of 8 winning overall baseball seasons. I like the Red Sox to get the job done in this game. This is Alex Rodriguez's last series in Boston. You know the Red Sox want to send him out a loser because of their long history with A-Rod. But these two teams are going in opposite directions. The Red Sox are fighting for the playoffs. The Yankees traded off a lot of important players at the deadline. They are starting to rebuild. The aging players on the roster know it. This team won't have a lot of fight down the stretch. Boston is younger and more talented. New York is going with Michael Pineda. He has a 5.17 ERA, and he has been a poor starter over the last month. Pineda has given up at least four runs in four of his last six starts. He has given up five home runs in those starts. That includes giving up three home runs in his last start against the Red Sox, who pounded him on July 15. The Yankees have lost two of his three starts against the Sox this year. I was pissed that the Hall of Fame Game was cancelled Sunday! We had Indianapolis because we knew they A) didn't care about the game and B) weren't going to have either of their top two quarterbacks, leaving them with two rookies. Damn NFL! But we clearly had the right side in that game, and it proves that I'm locked in on the gridiron right out of the gate. As such, I am going with my NFL Preseason Game of the Year right out of the gate. One of the numbers jumped off the page, and I am going for a big strike. My NFLX GOTY last year was a rout, with the Eagles jumping out to a 25-0 lead against the Packers in a blowout win. I have posted 8 of 9 winning Augusts, and I started the 2015 season going 10-4 with my NFL preseason picks. As for this free play, I like the Jaguars to get this one outright. The Jets have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL. They don't have anything to prove in these games, and I can see them resting most of their aging players. Why wouldn't they? The Jaguars are on the opposite end of the spectrum. This team is young and hungry and they have had a lot of buzz coming into the season. I think they are pretty excited about getting on the field for this game, and they will be excited for a trip up near New York City and the press that will come with it. I like the Jets' quarterback situation a little better. But the Jags have a big edge in motivation, and I think they will win this one outright. Take Colorado over Philadelphia (7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12)
This Friday we like the Colorado Rockies on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. For starters, we think Jon Gray is a very good young pitcher from Oklahoma (where he was born and raised and went to the University of Oklahoma). He comes off one of his worst starts of his career in giving up 8 runs in 3.2 innings as he gave up 10 hits in a short span of time to the Miami Marlins, who ended up winning the game 10-7 as he picked up the loss. Prior to that he had helped his team win three straight contests, including giving up just 4 earned runs over his last five starts spanning 30.1 innings. We like Gray to bounce-back here behind a Rockies team that has had a decent year and has exceeded expectations. Though Jake Thompson of the Phillies will likely pitch better than in his first outing, he likely struggles once again today. He gave up 6 earned runs to the Padres in a pitcher's ballpark over 4.1 innings, and though he will have the motivation to pitch better today, he faces a potent Rockies lineup that is looking to continue to move up. Free NFL Preseason Prediction From Jason Sharpe :
Take #264 New York Giants (-3) over Miami (8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12)
The NFL team whose local fans and media seem to place the most pressure on them to win is arguably the New York Giants. The Giants come into this season with a new head coach, former offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. The pressure on McAdoo is big as he not only comes in having to replace a legend in Tom Coughlin but overall most Giants fans weren't very happy with the team hiring from within the organization instead of going outside and getting a new guy who would come in and make the big sweeping changes that excite the fans and media. There's also been a big knock on the lack of head coaching experience with McAdoo, as his O.C job in New York the last two years is the only time in his career that he's even been a coordinator. In fact, he just turned 39 years old and has never been a head coach at any level of football before being hired as the Giants new head man. Like in most NFL cities, excitement usually picks up during the offseason with all the new additions being made to the team. That was the case in NY as well. Playing in the weak NFC East means that most Giants fans think this current team is good enough to win NFC East this year, but the one area of concern for most is with McAdoo. McAdoo knows to win over some support from the fans and media and also gain some confidence in his own abilities also is for the Giants to come out of the gates look good during the preseason, which in turn means winning football games. Most NFL teams are only concerned with staying healthy during the NFL Preseason, but there are also a handful of squads every year who want and need to play well, and the Giants are among that group this preseason. Free MLB Baseball Prediction From Doc's Sports :
Take 'Over' 8.0 Chicago White Sox at Miami (7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13)
The wheels have fallen off for veteran James Shields, and it's hard to believe he still owns a spot in a big league rotation. Shields is 5-14 with a 5.43 ERA and 1.55 WHIP on the season, and his last two starts are about as bad as it gets. In those two outings, Shields has a 19.91 ERA and a total of just two strikeouts. The Marlins offense has improved nicely this season, even though it doesn't appear so at just 10th in the NL in runs scored (last year they were 14th). Remember they play in a pitcher's park, so their numbers are naturally suppressed. On the road, which is a much better indicator of a team's true ability, the Marlins are fifth in the NL in runs. Adam Conley gets the ball for Miami, and he hasn't been as good as his 3.70 ERA indicates. He's walking over four batters per nine innings and has a road ERA of 4.43 this season. The White Sox lineup isn't unstoppable, but they'll get a few off Conley to help get us over the total. Play the OVER in Saturday's White Sox-Marlins matchups. Take Miami (-140) over Chicago White Sox (7 p.m., Saturday, August 13)
Miami and Chicago seem to be headed in opposite directions as the Marlins are continuing to make their push for the playoffs, while the White Sox can't seem to get it together. Adam Conley will be pitching for the Marlins, and he has been solid at home going 4-3 with a 2.88 ERA. He has allowed 2 runs or fewer in five out of his last six starts in Miami, with the Marlins going 5-1 over those contests. He will be pitching opposite James Shields, who can't seem to get out of his own way for most of the season. Shields seemed to have righted the ship when he went 3-3 through a six-game stretch, not allowing more than two runs in any of those starts. However, he has been blasted in his past two starts, allowing 14 runs on 15 hits through just 6.1 innings, losing both efforts. He is 1-6 with a 6.39 ERA on the road this year and I don't think he will have much success against Miami who are getting nice contributions all up and down their line up. I like the Marlins to take this game at home and pick up the win. Take San Francisco 49ers 'Under" 5.5 Wins (-125)
If you've followed us in the past, you know that we are big fans of Chip Kelly. He kind of got a bad rap in Philly last season because of his decisions once he was named general manager, but the guy is a good coach that players seem to either love or hate. His system works well at times, but in all honesty it's probably better suited for the college game where he has a much larger roster at his disposal. Putting our Chip Kelly love fest aside, the 2016 49ers are in rebuilding mode, and wins are going to be hard to come by for them. Kelly will be better in that he was for the Eagles as he now just needs to worry about coaching and not making front office decisions. The problem that he is going to face is that there just isn't that much talent on his roster. Both Torrey Smith and Carlos Hyde should thrive in Kelly's up-tempo system, but after that there aren't any playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. The QB situation is a mess with Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick both getting reps with the first team, and the fact that a team thinks that Gabbert can go out and lead an NFL team every Sunday is really all that you need to know. Their defense was in the middle of the pack last season as they allowed 24.2 PPG, and we expect that number to go up in a big way if they are on the field as much as the Eagles defensive unit was on the field in the last two seasons. Throw in the fact that they play in a very tough NFC West and their first five games on their schedule are against the Rams, at Carolina, at Seattle, Dallas and Arizona and we could be looking at a 0-5 record to start the season. If that happens, and there is a very good chance that it does, we can't find six wins for the team in their remaining eleven games so we'll lay the price on the under as we think San Francisco finishes 5-11 at best here in 2016.

Take Louisville Cardinals 'Over' 9.0 Wins
Every media outlet and supposedly football expert has the ACC won by either Florida State or Clemson, but don't forget about the Cardinals of Louisville. Louisville last year went 8-5, and this year they are more experienced and their bowl win against Texas A&M should bring great momentum for the start of the season. They will be 2-0 heading into their home game against Florida State, and even if they lose that game I still have them getting to 9 wins maybe even 10. If they beat Florida State then they should have no problem getting double-digit wins. I see the Louisville Cardinals either going 9-3 and we push or 10-2 and we cash big.
