Take #407 Chicago (+4) over New England (8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18)
No NFL head coach or team wants to be embarrassed during the preseason, but that was the case with the Chicago Bears last week in their home loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos by a 22-0 score. The stats in the game were as ugly as the final score as Chicago only managed to put up 130 yards of offense during the game. The Bears offense couldn't move the football, going three-and-out on 7 of their first 10 drives of the game as they never really threatened to score during the contest. Many of the Bears top players, along with their head coach John Fox, spoke about how poorly they played and how they all needed to be a lot better going forward. That's the exact kind of effort that were looking for during these preseason games, and especially if their facing a team that's coming off a nice winning effort like New England had as the Patriots put up a Week 1 NFL high by scoring 34 points in their game. The Pats were also able to get the much-needed work in for their opening week starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the game as well. With a big Week 3 dress rehearsal game coming up next week at Carolina, I'm looking for more of a take-it-easy type attitude from the Patriots here in this contest, which should much different than the sense of urgency that I'm expecting to see out of the Bears. Take 'Under' 8.0 Seattle at L.A. Angels (7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18)
I'm not going to lie: I have been absolutely awful for most of this MLB season. The worst of my career. But you know what, after 11 years all I can say is that a cold few months have always been the harbinger of a monster run and that this is absolutely the perfect time to get on board for both the rest of this MLB season and for my football season, which I have a feeling is going to be amazing. I see one game on Saturday that I have tabbed for my 8-Unit MLB Game of the Year. I have been picking up some steam lately, posting over $3,300 in MLB profit over the last two weeks, and I have gone 4-0 with my last four plays rated 5.0 or higher. I really like how this spot is lining up, and this is one of my biggest wagers of 2016. As for this free play, I just think that the Angels are due to win at some point after 11 straight losses. They are not hitting the ball at all, scoring just 17 runs in their last eight games (2.1 per game). These guys are toast. But Matt Shoemaker is on the mound, and he has been their best starter for the last several months. Shoemaker is coming off one of his worst starts, giving up 12 hits and five runs, so he is a solid bounce-back candidate. Since mid-May Shoemaker has gone back-to-back starts without a quality start just one time, and that was in early July. He shut down the Mariners on Aug. 7, and 10 of his last 14 starts have gone 'under'. Hisashi Iwakuma is just rock solid. He has only given up more than three runs four times in his last 16 starts, and he hasn't allowed more than five runs all year. The Angels have only seen him once this year, and I think he will be sharp. This game seems like a 4-2 or a 3-1 game to close out this four-game series, and I would play 'under'. Take Milwaukee over Chicago Cubs (2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18)

The Brewers have hit .257 as a team lifetime against Arrieta with an OBP of .313 and a slugging percentage of .338, and there is a lot of value here Thursday. Take L.A. Dodgers (-155) over Cincinnati (7:10 p.m., Friday, August 19)
This pitching matchup is between two guys who neither ball club were planning on using as starters in the beginning of the season, but with injuries and unforeseen circumstances they will be taking the mound. Ross Stripling will be making his 15th appearance and 11th start on the year for the Dodgers as he is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA. He is 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 6 appearances (4 starts) on the road, and he has allowed more than 2 runs in just one of those appearances as the Dodgers will look to improve on their 27-28 record away from LA. Keyvius Sampson will be on the bump for the Reds, and he has been up and down from the minors all season. He has made just one start in the majors while appearing in 11 contests for Cincinnati this season, and he will be called upon limiting a Dodgers team that is pushing for a division title and a playoff berth. The Reds lost all 3 contests in Los Angeles earlier in the season, and I think they will struggle to pick up a win in this game and this series as well. Take Texas (-160) over Tampa Bay (7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19)

Take 'Under' Arizona vs. San Diego (10:40 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19)
We roll with the 'under' here as these two teams meet on Friday night for what should be a pitching duel. For starters, Greinke did not last 2 innings in Boston as he gave up 9 runs on 10 hits en route to a 2-16 loss at the hands of the Red Sox. It was one of the worst starts of his career, and consequently we expect him to bounce-back here. Combine that with the fact he had 9 decent outings prior to that, we expect him to bounce-back with some fervor and get back on track. To give you some idea what an outlier that start was, Greinke had given up 10 runs in his previous 44 innings combined prior to the effort at Fenway. In conjunction with the Greinke bounce-back, you also have Cosart, who still has not picked up a win for his new ballclub coming over from Miami. As he looks for his first win, he comes off a strong effort against the Mets, giving up 1 run in 6 innings in what was a 2-3 loss for the Diamondbacks, we like him to continue pitching well and therefore, this game likely goes under the posted total this late Friday Evening. Take 'Over' 9.0 Houston at Baltimore (7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20)
If you're looking for an old-fashioned slug fest, you might want to tune into the Astros-Orioles game on Saturday night. Two of the most dangerous offenses in the league will tee off on a pair of bad starting pitchers in a ballpark that doesn't hold too many fly balls. Mike Fiers and Wade Miley are slated to go in this one. Fiers is having the worst season of his big league career (4.66 ERA), and things seem to just be getting worse. Wade Miley has been even worse, and I don't think a change of scenery from Seattle to Baltimore is going to help his cause (it probably only makes matters worse). Both of these pitchers have given up their fair share of home run balls this season, so expect to see plenty more in this contest. Take the OVER with confidence as our free play selection. Free NFL Futures Prediction From Alan Harris :
Take Chicago Bears 'Over' 7.5 Wins (+120)
For some reason, the Bears seem to be a team that nobody is really talking about as a sleeper going into the 2016 season. They improved from 5-11 in 2014 to 6-10 last year in John Fox's first season on the sideline, and if history is going to repeat itself under Fox, they could be in for a big jump here in 2016. Both the Broncos and Panthers took huge leaps in Fox's second season with Denver, winning 13 games (up from 8 in 2011) while the Panthers won 11 games in 2003, up from seven in the 2002 season. 2015 offensive coordinator Adam Gase has left the team to become the head coach of the Dolphins, which may hurt Jay Cutler, who had a big of resurgence last year. Some of that will attributed to Gase, but it seems to us that Cutler may have figured things under Fox's system. He had his lowest interception total since 2011, and with the team now relying on the run a bit more, Cutler, in turn, is required to make less decisions. The defense should be better than the unit that gave up 24.8 PPG last season since Fox will have more of his guys in his system this year. All that being said, the main reason we think this team can win eight games is their fairly soft schedule. They open the season with games against the Texans, Cowboys, Eagles, Lions, Colts and Jags all before they face their first tough NFC North game versus the Packers in Week 7. Are the Bears going to go 6-0 in those games? The answer to that is no, but they are on par or better with all of those teams except the Cowboys in our opinion. They also close out the season with five games against the Niners, Lions, Packers (home), Redskins and Vikings, so there are three winnable games for them to end the season. Figure in the plus-money price on a team that we see with a chance to get to at least 8-8 under Fox, and we'll take them as the Newsletter Free Play for this week.

Take Nebraska 'Under' 8.5 Wins (+105) - Total Season Wins
Last year the Cornhuskers were only 3-5 in conference play, and I know this team is improved, but this Cornhusker team really looks like an eight-win team. The lost 5 games last year in the final seconds, and this year their road schedule is killer, going to Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio St, and ending the season at Iowa. They could easily go 1-4 in their road games, and when I did my power rankings I only had them going 7-5 and best 8-4. No way this Cornhuskers team goes 9-3 with their road schedule.
