Take Northern Illinois (+12) over Bowling Green (8 p.m., Friday Dec. 4)
Yes, I know the Huskies lost last week to the Ohio Bobcats (26-21), but should they really be 12-point underdogs Friday night? Last year NIU beat Bowling Green 51-17, and I see this game staying close Friday night. Bowling Green has won eight out of their last nine games, but their last meaningful game was at home and the Toledo Rockets beat them 44-28. If I'm NIU I would watch that film not once but multiple times. NIU will need to play tough, physical, and in your face defense to keep this game close, and on offense NIU will need to establish the run and keep the Bowling Green offense off the field. I do see Bowling Green winning this game but I see them winning by a touchdown or less and I would grab this +12 now before this number goes bye-bye. NIU is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games, and again the Huskies keep this game close in the MAC Championship Game. And now the Grizz are back home in a game that I think they will be focused for. Montana got smoked at San Francisco last year and they will want a little payback here. San Francisco has gotten to 4-2 by playing a really weak schedule, beating a bunch of nobodies to this point. The Dons are young and have a lot of moving pieces and I think they will struggle against Montana's defense and methodical style. Take Denver over Philadelphia (1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5)
Four of 5 winning nights as Doc's NBA is heating up and we have a 7-unit play coming on Thursday and we are on a 5-2 run for picks rated 5-Units or higher. Both these teams in the Saturday matinee are bad. But the Sixers are a run or so below the Nuggets here. Denver plays in the much better conference and plays tougher teams night in and night out. But we think we will see a pretty low number here for the visiting team because this will be a road game and also the Nuggets don't have a very good reputation right now and have been struggling against the spread. But they are clearly the much better team in this matchup and this should be a good spot for them to get a rare road win. This will be the last game of a 5-game road trip for the Nuggets and they will want to end it on a positive note. We are writing this free pick on Tuesday and the Sixers are about to lace it up against the Lakers and they have a good chance to get their first win in that game. If they do win this is an even stronger play as the Sixers will start playing without the desperate nature they have had the last few games. Denver is 5-4 ATS on the road, where they are normally a bit undervalued. And we think that will be the case again here on Saturday in the early game. This should be a low-scoring contest, but we see Denver pulling away in the fourth quarter here. Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet on Saturday night when the Appalachian St. Mountaineers travel to take on the South Alabama Jaguars at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL. The Jaguars have posted a 5-2-1 record to the over in their last eight games following a straight up loss and they have gone an excellent 9-3-1 to the over in their last thirteen games overall. The Mountaineers have been an over team as well in the spot they are in here tonight as they have posted a 5-2 record to the over in their last seven games following an ATS loss. I just barely missed making it five of six winning football weeks last week thanks to two really bad beats with the Patriots and Steelers. Those things happen. But I am coming back bigger and better this week. I went 4-2 last Saturday in college football, including a 6-Unit winner with UTEP, and this week I will have an 8-Unit College Football Game of the Year. This is my one and only 8-Unit college football play and this one is from the MAC Championship on Friday night. This pick on USC is a winner for Saturday. The Trojans just announced that their interim coach will take over as the full-time head coach. I think that has really energized this program. And I think that the Trojans are excited about playing spoiler against a Stanford team that is trying to get into the playoffs. USC has revenge for a loss at home to the Cardinal earlier this year. They beat Stanford in 2013 and 2014, and the underdog has been the way to bet this series, with the team taking the points going 8-1 ATS the last nine times they have played. USC's only loss under Clay Helton came at Oregon. But other than that they have been perfect, and I think that they are the better team coming into this game. Stanford has gone just 2-3 ATS in its last five games and has not been that impressive, being outgained in their last two games and in three of their last five.
