Monday Night Football Picks: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/24/2014
Redskins-Cowboys on “Monday Night Football”? Yeah, you have heard that record before. This is the 16th time the NFC East rivals will meet under the Monday night lights. The only rivalry that has been staged more on MNF is Raiders-Broncos with 17, and the Raiders probably aren't going to be on MNF for several years, so that could be passed by 2016.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers Odds & Picks
by Alan Matthews - 10/16/2014
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a family-run organization, and the Rooneys have made the franchise one of the most stable in the NFL. For example, the Steelers have had just three head coaches since the 1970 merger: Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin. All have been successful. However, I wonder if Monday could be the beginning of the end for Tomlin should Pittsburgh lose.
Monday Night Football Picks: San Francisco 49ers at St. Louis Rams Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/9/2014
We all know that entering Week 6 the Thursday night games have been an abomination to watch so far. The Monday night games, outside of perhaps two (Chargers-Cardinals and Eagles-Colts) haven't been a heck of a lot better. Alas, I'm not sure that changes this week in what appears to be a mismatch between San Francisco and St. Louis.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins Odds & Picks
by Alan Matthews - 10/3/2014
Did the course of the Washington Redskins' history, shoot maybe even NFL history, change a bit the last time the Seahawks and Redskins played? That was in the wild-card round of the 2012 season. Washington was the NFC East champion led by a spectacular rookie quarterback named Robert Griffin III, who would win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. However, he played the game on an iffy knee and would eventually tear his ACL in Washington's 24-14 loss. Of course, Griffin III hasn't been able to stay healthy since. Really, that win also was the signal of the start of Seattle's juggernaut as well.
Monday Night Football Picks: New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/26/2014
The first four Thursday night games of the NFL season have been duds, with each a blowout. Thankfully, all three Monday night games (OK, I'm not counting the early one in the Week 1 doubleheader) have been very entertaining and down to the wire. Let's hope that continues this week as New England visits Kansas City. It could be the start of a wild 24 hours in that town with the Royals likely to play in the AL Wild-Card Game on Tuesday night.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Chicago Bears at New York Jets Odds & Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/19/2014
When seeing the Bears would play the Jets in the 2014 season, you just knew it was going to be a prime-time game with the NFL's two biggest media markets facing off (since L.A. still doesn't have a team). I am fascinated to see how these teams react in Monday night's game. Chicago is coming off an incredible high in last week's big upset in San Francisco, while the Jets are probably still kicking themselves for blowing a great upset chance in Green Bay.
Monday Night Football Picks: Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/12/2014
Well, you have to figure that Eagles coach Chip Kelly knows as well as anyone how to try and defend Colts quarterback Andrew Luck -- not that anyone has had much success at it yet. Of course, Kelly's Oregon Ducks and Luck's Stanford Cardinal faced off three times during Luck's career on The Farm, with Oregon winning the final two meetings.
Monday Night Football Predictions: New York Giants at Detroit Lions Odds & Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/5/2014
I'm sure New York Giants fans already have booked airfare and hotel rooms to the greater Phoenix area for the first weekend of February. That, of course, is where Super Bowl XLIX will be played. Fans of Big Blue are giddy because the Giants were 5-0 this preseason, the team's first unbeaten preseason since 2006. I can't tell you how little that means. Last year, for example, the Redskins were unbeaten when it didn't count and won three when it did.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Falcons at 49ers Week 16 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/20/2013
When the NFL schedule was released in the spring, the "Monday Night Football" finale between the Falcons and 49ers looked like one of the games of the year. It was to be a rematch of the 2012 NFC Championship Game -- won in thrilling fashion by the Niners at the Georgia Dome -- as well as the final regular-season game at historic but ancient Candlestick Park. One of those is still true.
Monday Night Football Picks: Ravens at Lions Week 15 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/12/2013
The Monday Night Football schedule stunk for the first eight weeks or so but has rallied nicely of late, and the penultimate MNF game of the season this week, Ravens at Lions, is arguably the most intriguing matchup of Week 15. Enjoy it because the finale next week, Falcons at Niners, should be a blowout.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Cowboys at Bears Week 14 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/5/2013
In my opinion, if you were to rank the most popular teams in the NFL since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys might be Nos. 1-2. I think the only team that might squeeze out one of the two would be Green Bay, but it's close. The Bears had perhaps the most popular team in league history, the 1985 “Super Bowl Shuffle” champions. Dallas is of course known as “America's Team”.
Monday Night Football Picks: Saints at Seahawks Week 13 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/29/2013
For all the bad football we have been subjected to this season on "Monday Night Football" -- and there is some talk that there could be games flexed to MNF in a season or two -- it all gets forgotten this week when Seattle hosts New Orleans. I fully expect this to be a preview of the NFC Championship Game. Where that is held likely will be determined by Monday's winner.
Monday Night Football Predictions: 49ers at Redskins Week 12 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/21/2013
Around this time last season in the NFL, we were supposedly witnessing an offensive revolution. The read-option was tearing up opposing defenses. And the two best dual-threat QBs were Washington's Robert Griffin III and San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick, both first-year starters. RGIII would lead Washington to a season-ending seven-game win streak and its first NFC East title in 12 years. Griffin became one of the league's most popular players and beat a stellar class for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Monday Night Football Picks: Patriots at Panthers Week 11 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/14/2013
Now we are talking! After being subjected to a pretty lousy “Monday Night Football” schedule all season, we get a potential Super Bowl preview this week when red-hot Carolina and its dominant defense hosts New England. That potential Super Bowl matchup is +8000 on Sportsbook.ag. Yes, it's true that neither is likely to be the top seed in its conference, but if you have noticed, top seeds aren't exactly making a lot of Super Bowls lately, much less winning them (last: 2009 Saints).
Monday Night Football Predictions: Dolphins at Buccaneers Week 10 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/7/2013
Sad to say, I've never played professional sports. I have played in high school and college, so I'm familiar with what goes on in a locker room. I've been the victim of pranks/hazing and certainly helped put the occasional freshman in line as well. Frankly, what the Miami Dolphins' Richie Incognito apparently did to Jonathan Martin sounds tame compared to what I had to endure as a fraternity pledge.
Monday Night Football Picks: Bears at Packers Week 9 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/31/2013
It's really a shame that injuries are going to cost football fans what should have been one of the best "Monday Night Football" matchups of the season. It's Week 9, so every team is dealing with injuries as it's a part of football, but perhaps no two teams are in worse shape in terms of lost star power than the Bears and Packers.
Monday Night Football Picks: Seahawks at Rams Week 8 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/24/2013
I think the St. Louis Rams are desperately seeking any and all publicity. The team doesn't draw well and is third fiddle in town behind the Cardinals and Blues. There's been some talk the franchise could move back to Los Angeles. Team ownership didn't get some $700 million in public funds to renovate the Edward Jones Dome, and the Rams' lease can be up after next season should they chose. Maybe the London Rams?
Monday Night Football Predictions: Vikings at Giants Week 7 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/18/2013
I've started a petition at Change.org for Major League Baseball to begin the World Series on Monday night instead of Wednesday. Because otherwise I'm going to have to watch the 1-4 Minnesota Vikings play the 0-6 New York Giants in certainly the worst “Monday Night Football” matchup of the season -- it makes the recent Jets-Falcons matchup look like a Super Bowl preview. I guess there's always hockey.
Monday Night Football Picks: Colts at Chargers Week 6 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/10/2013
Why don't the Indianapolis Colts have shorter odds to win the AFC Championship? They are currently +1000 on Sportsbook.ag, behind Denver (-150), New England (+600) and tied with Kansas City. OK, obviously the Broncos you can understand. But the Patriots? That's purely because of history, not how New England has played so far this year.
Monday Night Football Betting: Jets at Falcons Bookie Advice
by CarbonSports - 10/7/2013
There’s a general rule of thumb out there that preaches, “Don’t bet against the Atlanta Falcons when they play in the Georgia Dome.” Ask most fans or gamblers, and they’ll tell you the same. It’s become one of these strange betting points because they win at home quite a bit.
