Packers vs. Vikings Picks Week 16 Monday Night Football
by Trevor Whenham - 12/19/2019
There is a lot on the line for both teams in this one. Coming in, Green Bay is one of four teams atop the NFC at 11-3, and Minnesota is a game back at 10-4. The Packers have locked up a playoff spot already and can clinch the division with a win here. They need to win out to give themselves the best shot at a bye in the first week of the playoffs.

Well, I have no one to blame but myself for going 0-2 on my picks for the Week 14 Monday night game between the Eagles and Giants from Philly. I didn't like Philadelphia as double-digit favorite but gave a 7.5-point alternate line instead and went over the total of 47. Sometimes, the weather absolutely should change your mind on certain picks.

Finally got a NFL spread pick right on a Monday night game as we recommended the Seattle Seahawks giving 2.5 points against the visiting Minnesota Vikings to conclude Week 13, and Russell Wilson continued his amazing run of prime-time success with a 37-30 victory. Tale of two halves as the Vikings were up 17-10 at the break and then allowed 24 straight points before making things interesting late. Pretty shocked there were 67 points scored between two run-heavy clubs with two very good defenses; I liked the under 49.

That's it for me this season recommending backing either Los Angeles football team in a prime-time game! The Chargers burned me two weeks in a row and the Rams embarrassed me and themselves in a 45-6 hope wipeout Monday night against the Lamar Jacksons (Baltimore Ravens). It was the Rams' worst-ever loss at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and it could have easily been 62-6 had the Ravens not sat Jackson for the fourth quarter.

Well, I'm done from a betting perspective with Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for the rest of this season and probably his career - frankly, after how bad Rivers has been in back-to-back prime-time games and losses, I'm not even sure the Chargers will try and re-sign him this offseason. On Thursday in Week 10, Rivers' three interceptions and complete inability to move his team in the final minute with a full assortment of timeouts cost me a Bolts bet in Oakland. On Monday,
Chiefs vs. Chargers Picks for Week 11 Monday Night Football
by Alan Matthews - 11/13/2019
This week we have our final international game of the 2019 season as the Los Angeles Chargers "host" the Kansas City Chiefs at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The NFL plans to have one game a season down there through at least 2021 … and I'm sure some day a full-time team in Mexico City just like in London.

Wow, my condolences if you happened to get a total of 48.5 for the Monday night Week 9 game between the Cowboys and Giants from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The under looked like a sure winner with Dallas up 30-18 in the final seconds, but then the Cowboys sacked Giants turnover-prone rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, the ball squirted away about 10 yards and Dallas' Jourdan Lewis came away with it and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.
Cowboys vs. Giants Monday Night Football Picks Week 9

For NFL Week 9, it looks like another mismatch, albeit not quite as bad, as the Dallas Cowboys are in prime-time yet again as they visit the NFC East rival New York Giants. No one wants to see the Jets or Giants this season in a national TV game, but they are both always going to be featured in at least a couple each because of the massive New York market. We have to deal with the Giants on MNF again on Dec. 9 in Philly, but the rest of the schedule on Mondays looks pretty good.
Week 8 Monday Night Football Picks: Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Did I think the New York Jets were going to beat the New England Patriots last Monday night? Of course not. But with how solid the Jets looked in Sam Darnold's return in upsetting Dallas the week before, sure I thought Gang Green would be competitive and cover a double-digit number. Uh, nope. The Patriots won 33-0, and it could have been 50-0. Darnold had the second-worst quarterback rating in franchise history. At least we got a split by going "under" the total of 42.5.

Jamaal Williams, you %&#*(#&!&*! In Monday night's game against the Detroit Lions, the Packers running back could have scored a touchdown on first-and-10 from the Detroit 11 with about 1:30 left. The Lions were trying to let Williams score, and he had a wide-open path to the end zone but smartly fell down right at the goal line even though his team was trailing 22-20. Williams and the Packers didn't want to give the ball back to Matthew Stafford and the Detroit offense as the Lions were out of timeouts.

I thought the Cleveland Browns would contend for a playoff spot this season, and they still might - the AFC North could only take eight victories to win. However, I wasn't buying all that Super Bowl hype (Browns and Bears took most money in Vegas to win SB LIV this offseason) because I wasn't sold yet on cocky Baker Mayfield or his shaky offensive line. We finally got our first MNF sweep of the 2019 season in Week 6 because we bet against Mayfield's Browns in San Francisco and went "under" the total.

Ugh, getting tired of all the split decisions on Monday Night Football this season. For some odd reason, I believed the Bengals would show up this past Monday in Pittsburgh and at least lose close, but boy was I wrong. So, we missed on Cincinnati +4 but easily stayed "under" the total of 43.5 in the Steelers' 27-3 victory.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions for Monday Night Football

I have yet to hit both picks on a Monday night game this season but also have yet to miss both. Another split in Week 3 as the Bears won 31-15 in Washington, easily covering the spread, but the total was set at 41.5, and we really liked the "under" there. And, frankly, it would have gone under if not for a Bears defensive touchdown. Chicago couldn't mount any long drives it seemed but kept getting the ball in good field position thanks to forcing five turnovers.

We try to get you these stories as early in the week as possible for obvious reasons. Sometimes that can backfire. For example, for the Monday night Browns-Jets game in Week 2, we sent our picks in - Browns -2.5 and "over" the total of 45 - before learning that Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was going to miss the game with mono. Yes, adults can get that.

Good luck ESPN in showing another Monday night game this season better than the Week 1 barnburner between the Texans and Saints from New Orleans. That is what is great about football sometimes: You find yourself screaming in front of a TV in a game that doesn't even involve teams you personally root for.
Monday Night Football Picks: Houston Texans vs. New Orleans Saints
by Alan Matthews - 9/3/2019
Per usual, there are two Monday night games in Week 1, and it was a pretty easy choice to decide to preview Houston at New Orleans in the early game over Denver at Oakland in the late one. The Texans and Saints were both division winners last year, while the Broncos and Raiders combined for a 10-22 mark in 2018 and probably won't be any better this year.

When is the last time you watched a sporting event on television simply to see how the fans reacted to something instead of caring much about the result on the field/court/ice/diamond/pitch, whatever? Off the top of my head, I'd say when LeBron James returned to Cleveland for the first time as a member of the Miami Heat.
Monday Night Football Predictions: New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
by Alan Matthews - 12/13/2018
I'm quite certain that New Orleans and Carolina are setting some sort of NFL record here. Of course, teams in the same division play each other twice a season. Never heard of two clubs playing back-to-back weeks in the regular season so this, then, would have to be the latest ever two division teams do play for the first time in a season.
Monday Night Football Predictions: Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks
by Alan Matthews - 12/6/2018
Remember, there's no Monday night (or Thursday night) game in Week 17, so just three MNF games left including this week. And it's one of the biggest games on the Week 14 schedule with Minnesota visiting Seattle. The Seahawks (7-5) won't be winning the NFC West as the Rams already have clinched that for a second year in a row.
Monday Night Football Picks: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles
by Alan Matthews - 11/29/2018
It's a rather bland but important NFC East matchup on Monday night to conclude Week 13 as the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles face off. It has to be unusual for these rivals to play for the first time in a season this deep into it. Shoot, the Redskins are already done with the Cowboys and the Eagles are with the Giants.
