2021 NCAA March Madness Betting Tips: How to Bet and What to Look For
by Chris Vasile - 3/15/2021
To say I am pumped about the return of March Madness would be an understatement. Last year’s cancellation of the tournament left such a void in March that I ended up learning Sudoku as a hobby. Let me tell you, I’d much rather be trying to figure out if a game is on pace for the “over” or “under” to hit than be putting single-digit numbers in a square box and erasing them a million times because they are in the wrong spot.
2021 AAC Tournament Predictions and Betting Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/10/2021
The American Athletic Conference hit a high-water mark in 2019. It sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament and nearly had a signature moment for the league when Central Florida almost pulled a colossal upset over Duke. Things have been a lot choppier since then. Connecticut skipped out and returned to the Big East. Wichita State fired its coach under a cloud of controversy. Cincinnati and Temple bid adieu to successful long-time coaches and have joined Central Florida and Tulsa in rebuilding efforts.
Final Four Betting Props with March Madness Expert Wagering Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 4/3/2019
It feels like a missed opportunity that the books do not get more creative with prop bets for the Final Four. It's the prop bets that makes the Super Bowl and other major events so much fun. But on this weekend's activities they not only don't get as creative as the Super Bowl, but they don't even really try at all. At this point in the week the most interesting Final Four props mostly consist of the MOP futures and the exact matchup for the finals. Here's a look at both:
Which Final Four Teams Have Best Crowd Support? Expert Analysis
by Trevor Whenham - 4/2/2019
The Final Four comes to Minneapolis this year. This is the fourth time that the city has hosted the event dating back to 1951. But this is the first time that they have hosted since the U.S. Bank Stadium was built, so we are treading new ground. The closest link that any team has here to the Final Four past in Minneapolis is that Tom Izzo led his squad to the Final Four in 2001 the last time it was in this city.
The Coaches Will Have Big Impact in Final Four Success
by Trevor Whenham - 4/2/2019
Only four coaches have the chance to win a national title in college basketball this year. As always, it is a very interesting collection of talented and accomplished guys. But it isn't the blue-chip group that we have seen in past years. Last year three of the four coaches were highly-accomplished guys who had been to the Final Four before, with two already having titles.
Final Four Bracket Picks 2019
by Trevor Whenham - 4/2/2019
Most of my brackets, I will admit, aren't in great shape. I went all in on Duke and Gonzaga in different brackets, so when they went home, I was left to lick my wounds. But I got the big win I wanted, beating my son in our family bracket. Sure, he's only 8 and doesn't really watch basketball much. But after three straight years of losing to him, I was going to beat him if it killed me. That kid was going down.
How the Final Four Teams Have Performed at the Betting Window
by Trevor Whenham - 4/1/2019
It seems like a lifetime ago, but it has been less than two weeks since we had a full field of 68 teams harboring dreams of winning the NCAA Tournament. And here we are already, down to just four teams. They aren't necessarily the four teams that everyone anticipated, but there aren't any that truly rock the foundations, either - there is no Loyola this year.
Sweet 16 March Madness Betting Advice 2019
by Trevor Whenham - 3/27/2019
If we could go back in time just a couple of days, we would know how to make money in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament without any risk or losses. All 16 betting favorites won their games - an unprecedented event in this era - so betting the favorites on the moneyline would have created some serious profits.
Sweet 16 Bracket Picks and Predictions All the Way Through Final Four
by Trevor Whenham - 3/27/2019
I made my NCAA Tournament bracket picks before the tournament began, and they mostly went okay. That's more an indication of how boring I was in my picks than anything - the tournament has played out about as true to form as is possible, so being right required just not making a lot of risky picks. Look at it this way - if you had picked the highest seed in all of the 48 games played so far, you would have correctly picked 14 of the 16 remaining teams.
Chalky First Weekend of the NCAA Tournament Sees Most Top Seeds Advance
by Trevor Whenham - 3/27/2019
It's a funny thing about the NCAA Tournament - we know how the seeds tell us it is all supposed to turn out, but then we feel frustrated when it turns out that way. This is an incredibly chalky edition of the NCAA tournament - about as chalky as we could ever expect it to be. All four No. 1 seeds are through to the Sweet 16. So are all four No. 2 seeds.
Geographical Advantages for Teams Playing in the Sweet 16
by Trevor Whenham - 3/26/2019
The Sweet 16 is set, and we know where the remaining teams are going to be heading to later this week. And that means we can take a look at the geographical realities of the regional assignments and what impact that could have on the teams going forward. Teams can have an advantage on the coming weekend in two ways - if they have favorable travel compared to their opponents or if they are likely to have significantly better crowd support than their foes.
Handicapping the Two Cinderella Teams in the Sweet 16
by Trevor Whenham - 3/26/2019
Every year in the days leading up to the Sweet 16, I write an article looking at the teams that have outplayed their seeds and what we might expect from them going forward. And almost every year the article covers far more teams than we see this year. In the Sweet 16, a team that outplays their seed is any team outside of the top four seeds. That means that this year there are just two such teams - No. 5 Auburn and No. 12 Oregon.
Duke Blue Devils Should Bounce Back After Close Call Against UCF
by Chris Vasile - 3/26/2019
What a first few days of the NCAA Tournament, eh? This tournament has been extremely chalky from an outright winner perspective but extremely favorable to the underdogs in the first two days of the tournament. What's left of the tournament is going to be (I hope) phenomenal basketball that features the top teams in the country and a chance to see what Duke can do against a team like Gonzaga, whom they are on a direct collision course with in the Final Four.
Make Winning Bets for Sweet 16: Differences than Opening Weekend NCAA Tournament
by Trevor Whenham - 3/25/2019
It's almost as if the NCAA Tournament starts over after the first four days of action. The Sweet 16 and beyond feels different in almost every way from the two rounds that precede it. There is typically much less chaos - not that chaos was a big issue on the opening weekend this year. And the chance to go home and take a breath before heading out for the next game or, hopefully two, gives a chance for teams to remember who they are and get back to what they do best.
2019 NCAA Tournament Bracket Predictions: Midwest Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/20/2019
One of the tenants of chaos theory is that that if you focus long enough and hard enough on dynamic, highly-sensitive, and seemingly random systems, then patterns actually start to emerge. There is no system in sports more imbued with chaos than the NCAA Tournament.
2019 March Madness Bracket Predictions: South Region
by Robert Ferringo - 3/20/2019
Last year Virginia was obviously the most overrated team in the field. This year you could argue that they are underrated. And while I was selling the Cavs heading into last year's Big Dance, I am somewhat bullish on Virginia this year. If the Cavaliers are going to earn that elusive slot in the Final Four, they are certainly going to have to earn it. Heavyweights like Tennessee and Villanova, as well as top-tier programs like Wisconsin, Oregon, and Purdue, all stand in their way.
2019 March Madness Seeds vs. National Championship Futures Odds
by Ricky Dimon - 3/20/2019
Putting together a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket is unlikely to happen in our lifetime -- or in anyone else's lifetime. It's just not going to happen. But a very good bracket is possible, and we at Doc's Sports are doing what it takes to help you come up with solid methods on how to put together the best possible bracket for your office pools. It won't be perfect, but the tips should help you contend for the top prize and unlimited bragging rights.
Help Filling Out NCAA Tournament Brackets: Sweet 16 Surprises
by Trevor Whenham - 3/19/2019
When the NCAA Tournament goes exactly to form, we would expect to see a Sweet 16 that is populated entirely by the top four seeds. No. 1 would play No. 4, and 2 and 3 would battle away. Of course, it rarely works out so smoothly. And last year was a great reminder that sometimes it isn't even close.
NCAA Tournament Bracket Predictions: High Seeds That Could Surprise
by Trevor Whenham - 3/19/2019
Guided by Sister Jean, Loyola worked their way right into our hearts as they made it all the way into the Final Four as a No. 11 seed. It had all the elements of a great story, and they were so easy to cheer for. They weren't the first upstart low seed to go on a crazy run, and they won't be the last. It's a big part of what makes the NCAA Tournament so special. Every year when the bracket is released, it's fun to look for which teams could be the ones to steal our hearts.
NCAA Tournament Bracket Strategy and Advice: Dangerous Low Seeds
by Chris Vasile - 3/19/2019
With Selection Sunday in the rear-view mirror and the field of 68 set for the 2019 NCAA Tournament , the public is now in a race against time to handicap all four play-in games and 32 first-round games that will be contested over the next five days. Most bettors have a routine when handicapping games, but not even that stops them from debating (complaining) about the teams that got terrible draws. Whether it was seeding or the region they got sent to, there is always some sort of backlash from the public towards the selection committee regarding the bracket.
