March Madness History
by Chris Vasile - 3/10/2016
If it weren't for a Canadian-American inventor by the name of Dr. James Naismith, the month of March would have undoubtedly been a month without much sporting excitement. Occurring two months after the college football season and one month prior to opening day in baseball, the invention of basketball seems to have filled the March sporting void that would have otherwise been present in many homes across the country.

by Trevor Whenham - 3/9/2016
We are almost there. Finally. The NCAA Tournament, the greatest three-week stretch of sporting glory on the annual calendar, tips off in just a few days. Getting ready for this tournament is almost as much fun as the tournament itself. To help in your preparations, here is a collection of NCAA Tournament facts to get your mind limber and ready for action:
March Madness Betting Trends for 2016 NCAA Tournament Wagering
by Trevor Whenham - 3/9/2016
It's almost time for what are easily two of the most exciting days of the year for sports bettors and sports fans in general - the first two days of the NCAA Tournament. For many glorious hours we can watch game after game, knowing that countless millions are skipping work to do the same thing as well. We are limited in the real handicapping that we can do until the brackets are set on Selection Sunday.
2016 American Athletic Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/9/2016
The American Athletic Conference is the college basketball league that no one wanted, no one cares about, and no one knows about. But that's why I love it! The AAC's lack of national profile means that it is an afterthought for the oddsmakers as much as for bettors. Their conference tournament tips on Thursday, though, and it should provide one last opportunity for a big score (or two) this season.
College Basketball Conference Tournament Picks for Tourney Winners
by Dave Schwab - 3/9/2016
It is Championship Week in men's college basketball. And while teams from mid-major conferences all over the country have one-by-one been punching their ticket to the Big Dance all week long, the big boys in the majors will be in action right through this weekend to decide the winner in their conference tournament.
2016 Big Ten Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
For the impressive depth and talent that the Big Ten has produced in college basketball over the past decade, the Big Ten Tournament has been fairly predictable. The No. 1 seed has won the title in four of the last six seasons. And either the No. 1 or the No. 2 seed has cut down the nets in 14 of the 17 years that the conference has crowned a tournament champion.
2016 Big 12 Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
Why not just crown Kansas the Big 12 champions and be done with it? The Jayhawks have accomplished one of the greatest streaks in sports, winning 12 consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles over the past dozen years. They've done so despite the fact that the Big 12 is consistently one of the best two or three best conferences in the country. However, tourney time is a different animal. And if the Jayhawks want to pull the diesel double, winning the league and tourney crowns, they'll need to fight their way past a field that's stacked with talent and toughness.
2016 Pac-12 Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
The Pac-12 Conference is still the best league in the country that no one is watching. With an array of styles, exceptional athleticism, great coaching, and a ton of big-time traditional rivals and powers, this conference has everything that a college hoops fanatic can want.
2016 Big East Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
The Big East Tournament used to be one of the biggest, best, and most exciting conference tournaments in college basketball. Conference realignment (screw you, college football!) has robbed the Big East of some of its star power and traditional rivalries. But the league has rebuilt, rebranded, and refreshed itself, even if it has had to do so outside of the national spotlight.
2016 SEC Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
For the better part of the past decade the SEC has been a football-only conference. SEC basketball has been dominated by Kentucky and Florida, with the rest of the league simply serving as fodder to the two titans and as a novelty for Southern fans in between bowl games and spring practice.
2016 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2016
The A-10 had three teams, VCU, Dayton and St. Bonaventure, each claim a piece of the regular-season title with identical 14-4 records, and a fourth team, St. Joseph's, was just a single game behind them with a 13-5 conference mark. Add in some capable second-tier teams like George Washington and Davidson and you have a parity-driven conference tournament that could be dominated by any one of a half-dozen schools.
Villanova Wildcats Odds to Win the 2016 NCAA Tournament with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/8/2016
The Villanova Wildcats have not made a deep NCAA tournament run since 2009, where they were eliminated by North Carolina in the Final Four. They have since faced a string of disappointing first- and second-round tournament exits. The No. 3-ranked team in the nation, however, is looking toward the 2016 tournament as an opportunity to bring home the school's first national title since 1985 and fifth Final Four appearance in the program's history.
Michigan State Spartans Odds to Win the 2016 NCAA Tournament with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/8/2016
Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans seem to be in contention for a national title every single year, even if they are never quite the favorite or highest-profile team in the tournament (that distinction typically goes to the Kentuckys and Dukes of the world). The Spartans have made four deep runs with eight second-round appearances over the last 10 years, and the they have one National Championship Game and two Semifinal Game appearances on their resume during that span.
2016 ACC Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/7/2016
Nature has an uncanny and ruthlessly efficient way of sorting out the chaos of the universe. Look at pebbles on the beach, and the way that over time the oceans perfectly sort them along the shore. A similar sorting can be found looking at the bracket for the 2016 ACC basketball tournament. Despite the hundreds of games played between the 15 random teams, there is a near perfect symmetry to the way the seeding and schedule fell in this tournament.
2016 Mountain West Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/7/2016
Tumultuous would have to be the best word to describe Mountain West basketball this season. The Mountain West has been the best mid-major conference in the country the past 15 years, at times rating even better than some of the "Big Six" leagues. But this season the MWC endured a bizarre campaign that featured mid-season coaching firings and star players quitting, major officiating screw-ups with significant ramifications, and a ton of injuries and suspensions. Pretty much the only thing missing was locusts.
2016 NCAA Basketball Championship Futures Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 4/9/2015
The glow of Monday’s brilliant NCAA Championship Game between Duke and Wisconsin hasn’t even faded yet, but it is never too early to look ahead at what is to come. Oddsmakers have released odds for next year’s title. Haters will not be happy — Kentucky is favored yet again. More accurately, they are co-favored with North Carolina and Virginia.
Kentucky College Basketball National Championship Futures Odds: Even Worth a Bet?
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2015
Kentucky is favored to win the NCAA tournament. Shocking. They have been since before the season started, and that has never changed. Why would it when they have yet to lose and have looked downright terrifying at times? At Sportsbook.ag, right now they are at -150 to win it all. Those are odds much lower than those for Duke (+360), Wisconsin (+400) and Michigan State (+800). The obvious — and very interesting — question, then, is whether there is any reason to bet on them at this price. Does it make any sense at all?
Final Four Bracket Picks with Expert March Madness Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2015
And then there were four. After a weekend of great basketball action — especially on Saturday — we now know which four teams are heading to Indianapolis for a chance at immortality. My original bracket is still in decent shape — like everyone in the world, I still have Kentucky alive. Throughout the tournament, though, we have been starting the brackets over again after each round. This is our last chance to do so. Therefore, without further ado here are my Final Four bracket picks:
2015 Final Four Predictions from Expert College Basketball Handicappers
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2015
What a freaking Final Four this is! The Final Four is always great, but it doesn’t always set up as strong and impressive as this one. The four coaches have a combined 27 Final Four appearances and six national titles between them. The schools are all proud, distinguished and well-run programs. Each team has stars, and all are, in different ways, very fun to watch. It’s all so good that I can barely stand waiting for it to tip off. In anticipation of the epic weekend ahead, here are six Final Four predictions I feel pretty good about:
2015 Final Four Betting Trends
by Trevor Whenham - 3/30/2015
As the Final Four draws near, bettors need to be looking for every possible edge that they can find. It is a brutally-tough and tight final grouping, and we know that the coaching will be outstanding. To try to find any edge that could exist, let’s look back at some recent Final Four betting trends for each of the remaining combatants:
