Sportsbooks Must Stay Competitive During "Slow Months"
by Jeremy Martin
Once March Madness ends, most online sportsbooks enter a lull that lasts until football heats up in September. The general betting public is not that enthusiastic about wagering on the National Basketball Association or online baseball betting. This puts some Internet sportsbooks in a precarious position. Some of the smaller shops - the ones that keep afloat with a heavy reliance on cash flow - could have trouble staying in business during these slow months.

by Jeremy Martin
If the opening round was any indication, betting on the NCAA Basketball Tournament is as popular as ever. NCAA Tournament Betting Essentials
by Jeremy Martin
Much like the Super Bowl, the NCAA Tournament is a betting event in which the public determines what the point spread will be on many games. During the regular college basketball season - and even the conference tournaments -- the bookies must set the lines with the 'wise guys' or professional bettors in mind. With NCAA Tournament betting, however, public handle (referred to as 'square' money by those in the industry) far outweighs the money that will be bet by the professionals.

Teasers Gaining Popularity
by Jeremy Martin
Teasers have been a part of sports wagering for many years. A teaser bet involves taking two or more teams and adding a set amount of points to the line of each team selected. All of the teams parlayed in the teaser bet must cover the teaser line in order for the bettor to win and the odds are lower (worse for the bettor) than your typical 11/10 straight wager.

The Power of the Vig
by Jeremy Martin
In a perfect world, sportsbooks in Nevada and worldwide could take in a proportionate amount of money on each side of a football game without ever moving their line. This would guarantee bookmakers a 4.4 percent profit and it would eliminate the risk that is inherent with taking sports wagers. The profit on balanced action comes from the vig, or juice, that is charged on sports bets.

Baseball Betting Allows Bettor Chance For Profits
by Jeremy Martin
While baseball is as American as apple pie and Chevrolet, it has never caught on with bettors in the U.S. the way football and basketball have. Baseball is the No. 3 sport for most bookmakers coming in just above hockey. Still considered one of the big three sports in the minds of general sports fans, it hasn't managed to capture the interest of the masses of recreational bettors that the sportsbooks covet.
