Lame: Deviation from a normal gait due to pain in a limb or supporting structures.
Lasix: Medication that acts as a diuretic and aids in breathing
Late double: Second daily double offered during the latter part of the program. Lead: Weights carried in pockets on both sides of the saddle used to make up difference between actual weight of the jockey and weight assigned to horse during a race; front leg that's last to hit the ground during a gallop or canter.
Length: Measurement approximating length of a horse used to denote distance between horses in a race.
Lock: Slang for a sure winner.
Lunge: Horse rearing and plunging.
