The Baltimore Orioles will try to further fuel their wild-card playoff hopes with a win over the Boston Red Sox this Tuesday night in the first of a three-game set between these two AL East rivals at Fenway Park The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on MLB Extra Innings.
The Orioles took two out of three from Toronto this past weekend on the road to move 2.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League. They are now 79-70 on the year with an even 37-37 record on the road. The total stayed “under” in all three games against the Blue Jays.
Boston has yet to officially clinch the AL East title, but it is pretty much a foregone conclusion after this weekend’s three-game sweep of New York at Fenway. The Red Sox are now 8-2 in their last 10 games and 9.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay in the division. They are an AL-best 50-25 at home this season, and the total has gone “over” in three of their last five games.

Baltimore is 5-5 in its last 10 games with an average of 3.9 runs a game. This has been below a season average of 4.7 runs that is currently ranked third in the AL. The biggest bat in the lineup still belongs to Chris Davis, who has hammered home 131 RBI while leading the majors in home runs with 50. Adam Jones is second on the team in both categories with 102 RBI and 31 home runs.
Pitching continues to be the one main question mark for Baltimore with a team ERA of 4.23. It will send Scott Feldman to the mound on Tuesday night as its starter. The right-hander is 12-10 this season with a 3.54 ERA. He has been able to go seven or more innings in his last three starts, including a 7 2/3-inning effort against the Yankees his last time out in which he held them to three earned runs. Feldman is 1-1 against Boston with an ERA of 4.50.
The Red Sox keep churning their way towards the postseason behind a lineup that is ranked second in the AL in hitting with a team batting average of .276. They lead the league in scoring with an average of 5.24 runs a game and have eight different players with at least 50 RBI this season. David Ortiz has led the way with 94 RBI and 27 home runs.
Boston is currently ranked fifth in the AL in pitching with a 3.77 team ERA. It will have Ryan Dempster as its starter for this series opener. He is 8-9 overall with a 4.70 ERA in 28 starts this season. The right-hander has had trouble pitching deep into ball games down the stretch, and he has not gone past the sixth inning in nine of his last 10 outings. Dempster is 2-1 against Baltimore with a 2.01 ERA.

Baseball Predictions: Orioles at Red Sox Picks
Baltimore desperately needs every win it can get to stay in the playoff race, but it faces a hot Boston team that has been especially hard to beat at home over the past month or so. Stick with the Red Sox to carry the momentum from this past weekend’s sweep of the Yankees to a victory in Game 1 of another divisional matchup.
