2014 World Cup Free Picks: Netherlands vs. Chile
12 p.m., Monday, June 23 – Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo (ESPN2)
Match Betting Lines
Netherlands are +162 in this match while Chile is +200 with first place on the line in Group B. The draw is listed at +240 and the total for this fixture is 2.5 goals.
Netherlands
The Dutch’s first two group play matches have resulted in eight goals. Holland is looking in top form, and they’ll look to run the table in the group by taking care of a Chile team who will likely embrace the challenge. So far the duo of Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben has been simply sublime, but minus van Persie for this encounter, which Dutch playmaker is going to take his place to help carry the load?
Chile
Being the side that eliminated current holders Spain will surely further inspire this side in their match against the Netherlands. Chile is a team that no one wants to play with something on the line. This team has played cohesively well and as strong as any unit so far in this tournament. No one player carries the load, and as a group that imposes a consistent threat for opponents trying to account for all the Chilean playmakers across the pitch.
Match Analysis
This match will determine Group B’s winner and second place finisher, as both of these teams are through to the Round of 16. Even further, the runner-up will effectively get host Brazil in the next round of the World Cup. That is incentive to avoid the runner-up spot.
Key Injuries, Suspensions, Yellow Cards
Robin van Persie, one of the Oranje’s leaders and co-top scorer (3), is suspended for his consecutive yellow cards. A harsh reality the Dutch will have to accept for such an important match.
Josh’s Pick
Something about this Chile team screams they are about to start a special run. People viewed them as the third well to Spain and Holland when the groups were announced, however they have stepped up to show this very well may be a tournament of South Americans having success. Chile already has a win under their belts against Spain, and now they will look for another over a European power. Can the Netherlands produce another dominant result without one of their leaders and top weapons? Without van Persie I think it will be quite difficult to match attacking football with Chile. I see them getting it, 2-1.
