2014 World Cup Free Picks: Honduras vs. Switzerland
4 p.m., Wednesday, June 25 – Arena Amazonia, Manaus (ESPN)
Match Betting Lines
With their World Cup lives on the line, Switzerland is -220 in this match against Honduras. The Central Americans are +850 as heavy underdogs with the draw being an option as well for +360. The total in this match is 2.5 goals.
Honduras
The group’s weakest side looked a halfway decent side against Ecuador in a match that could have gone either way. However it didn’t go for the Central Americans, and thus they’ll play this match and exit the World Cup straight after. That was pretty much to be expected as Honduras was simply outclassed against three superior opponents all from better qualifying regions.
Switzerland
For as badly as France laid on the butt whooping in their second match, the Swiss still essentially control their own destiny with second place in the group up for grabs. They are heavy favorites to get the win here, and they should think that would do the trick with Ecuador now having to take on mighty France. A draw will be enough if Ecuador loses, however surely the European nation wont risk having that mindset in this crucial tie.
Match Analysis
The Swiss know a win is the only surefire way to avoid elimination at the World Cup. They’ll bring an offensive-minded approach to this match and take the game to Honduras. They scored twice against Ecuador and two more again versus France, so conventional wisdom suggests they will find the back of the net at least a few times against an inferior opponent. Look for the Central American outfit to reply in attack having nothing to lose.
Key Injuries, Suspensions, Yellow Cards
Both teams should see strong line-ups with their best players in this match.
Guy’s Pick
Honduras’ defense has not been good enough to make you think they can get a victory here. Considering a win would be more beneficial to the Swiss, you’d have to back them here to get the three points. But with the moneyline being high for the favorites, consider the ‘over’ as a more valuable wager should you want some action here.
