2014 World Cup Free Picks: Chile vs. Greece
12 p.m., Saturday, June 14 – Estadio Mineriao, Belo Horizonte (ABC)
Match Betting Lines
Group C favorites Colombia are -167 to begin their 2014 World Cup. Greece are +465 and the draw can be had for +225. The total is set at 2 goals, EVEN for the ‘over’ and -120 for the ‘under’.
Colombia
Despite the fact that Colombia will be without their top player in striker Radamel Falcao, a great deal of excitement remains around this summer’s campaign and the overall chances for the South American team in Brazil. Jackson Martinez will be a big time player in the absence of Falcao.
Greece
The Greeks play a very defensive and methodical style of football. Some could even label it as negative with their strong sense of sitting back to defend and creating defensive a shell around their goal. Still, with a physically imposing side, they always pose a threat from set pieces and balls sent into the box from out wide.
Match Analysis
This is definitely one of the group play matches that pits two countries with complete opposite styles of play against one another. Greece will sit back and defend, not wanting to allow Colombia’s skill and ability many chances behind its back line. Greece will assuredly be looking for a draw against the group’s top seed, and that will be seen in their choices to defend at all costs against a much more talented opponent.
Key Injuries, Suspensions, Yellow Cards
Radamel Falcao’s absence is already a known story, however you will hear it talked about so much from the media during this game based on how Colombia react and play without their top man.
Josh’s Pick
Greece will do everything possible not to allow goals. But that being said, Colombia are going to have the bulk of possession and a handful of chances to pounce on their opponent. The Greeks will likely have a few corner kicks and free ball strikes to steal a goal, however a 1-0 victory in favor of Colombia seems a realistic score line.
