Philadelphia Stars Team Preview
With their first pick of the inaugural USFL draft, The Philadelphia Stars picked up the "Aaron Rodgers of Division III" in Bryan Scott out of Occidental College. the 215 lb., 6'1 signal caller threw for 9,073 yards with 77 touchdowns to pair in just 33 games. In his true freshman season, he earned All-Conference Second Team in the SCIAC and was also named Newcomer of the Year. In his last game of that season, Scott threw six touchdowns and 473 yards through the air which set a single game record in both categories for Occidental. He was selected to play for the Under 19 USA national Football team and led them to a gold Medal finish in Kuwait. He continued to improve each season and threw for over 3,000 yards his senior season with a TD-INT rate of 27-5. In 2017, Scott had his pro day at USC hit 62 of his 64 pass attempts (1 drop) which earned him a roster spot for the BC Lions in the CFL. He was released the same season but is getting a second chance at the football with the Stars.
In round 2, the Stars took defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun, who played his college ball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In just 8 games his freshman year, Akinmoladun racked up 11 solo tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks which earned him Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. Akinmoladun was a factor for the Cornhuskers but was never able to replicate those first season stats during his collegiate career. He finished his career with 106 total tackles. In addition, he had 11 sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 2 deflected passes. Akinmoladun was signed as an undrafted free agent to the New York Giants in 2019. He was then picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals before making stops for the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets.
Round 3 would have the Stars drafting Gus Cumberlander who played his college ball for the Oregon Ducks. Over the course of his career as a Duck, Cumberlander finished with 23 tackles, 6.5 sacks and fumble recoveries. The 6'7", 260 lb. defensive lineman will be looking for a fresh start with the Stars.

The staring running back for the Philadelphia Stars will be Matt Colburn. Colburn played for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons from 2015-2018. In his career for Wake Forest, he had 2,550 yards on the ground via 542 carries. He finished with 15 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 34 balls for 306 yards and averaged 9 yards per reception.
Maurice Alexander is looking like he'll be the top wide receiver on the team for Philadelphia. Alexander started his college career as a QB recruit for the Florida International Panthers. He threw for over 800 yards and tossed two touchdowns before making the switch over to wide receiver. In his two years of playing WR, he racked up 772 yards through the air and caught six touchdowns. He was also a threat when carrying the ball. He finished with 273 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns via the ground game.
Brennan Eagles will be on the other side of the field playing wide receiver for the Stars. He played for the Texas Longhorns from 2018-2020. In his time playing football in Austin, Eagles totaled 1,026 yards through the air and caught 11 touchdowns. he caught 61 balls and averaged 16.8 yards per catch making him a threat for the big play.
Josh's Pick: Vegas has Philadelphia as a team that should finish close to the top of the league. With a mix of playmakers on offense and defense, Philadelphia will be looking to bring the first title in the USFL to the City of Brotherly Love.
