New Orleans Breakers USFL Preview 2022: Season Win Total Picks, Odds and Predictions
New Orleans Breakers Team Preview
At the number 8 spot in the inaugural USFL Draft, the New Orleans Breakers picked Kyle Sloter. Sloter started his college career with Southern Mississippi but decided to transfer to the Northern Colorado when the Golden Eagles moved him to wide receiver. When he finally got a shot at a full season of QB play for UNC, he put up solid numbers on the season. He finished his 2016 season throwing for 2,665 yards through the air. He went 197 of 318 which was a completion rate of 61.9%. Sloter threw 29 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions in his final season.
Sloter did not get an invitation to the NFL Combine in 2017, however, Sloter thought we would get eyes on him at Northern Colorado's pro day and did well in front of scouts. He signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in May of 2017. Sloter threw for 413 yards in the preseason on 31 of 43 passes, which was the highest of any rookie QB. However, he was waived in September of the same year. Over the four years, Sloter made his way around the league playing for teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders.
The second pick for the New Orleans Breakers was edge rusher Davin Bellamy who played his college ball for the Georgia Bulldogs. Bellamy played for the Bulldogs from 2014 through the 2017 season. In his time there, Bellamy racked up a total of 135 tackles with 24 of them for loss. He also earned 13 sacks, deflected 5 passes and forced 4 fumbles. His four-year career at Georgia earned him a shot with the Houston Texans after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He was waived in August. From there he was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad and then went back to the Texans for a second stint. Bellamy spent short periods with the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Breakers' next pick was Anree Saint-Amour who played on the edge for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from 2015 through 2018. Saint-Amour played in 36 games for the Yellow Jackets. In that time, he tallied a total of 103 tackles with 23.5 of them for loss. He also added 11.5 sacks, two interceptions and four forced fumbles. Saint-Amour spent a little time with the Minnesota Vikings but will be looking for a fresh start with the Breakers.

Johnnie Dixon is another notable pickup by the Breakers. The Ohio State product will be counted on to be an outlet for quarterback Kyle Sloter. Dixon played for the Buckeyes from 2014 through 2018. Through three seasons with the Buckeyes, Dixon only played in five games. In his final two season he was on the field for 21 games with his most successful season coming his senior year. Dixon finished his collegiate career with 67 catches for 1,146 yards and averaged 17.1 yards per catch. He pulled in 16 touchdowns via the pass and one rushing touchdown.
The Breakers are at a bit of a disadvantage as they had last pick of the quarterbacks available. That said, they have the second-best chance to win the league and that's because of a strong D-Line, and what I think is the best receiver core in the USFL. Their receivers have more NFL experience than any other team and Sloter has spent time in the league as well. Seems like they have enough talent to make a run.
Josh's Pick: The New Orleans Breakers are picked towards the top of the league, and we like them to finish in the top 3.
