New Jersey Generals USFL Preview 2022: Season Win Total Picks, Odds and Predictions
New Jersey Generals Team Preview
The New Jersey Generals will be starting the season in just a few weeks. The Generals will be playing home games at Protective Stadium and Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. In the inaugural draft for the New Jersey Generals, they chose Ben Holmes from Tarleton State at the quarterback position. Throughout high school and junior college, Holmes played wide receiver. However, once he got to Tarleton State, he was switched to the QB position and excelled from there. In his final season (2019) he finished with 3,338 yards through the air with 34 touchdowns and three interceptions. The 5'10", 200 lb QB led Tarleton State to their first outright Lone Star Conference Championship. He finished his career there with a record of 23-2. After wrapping up his collegiate football career, Holmes went on to play for the six-time champion Arizona Rattlers in the Indoor Football League. Now he'll take his talents to the newly formed USFL to try his hand at getting a championship there.
Their next pick in the draft was former Oregon Duck defensive end, Bryson Young. In four seasons for the Ducks (2016-2019), Young finished with two sacks and six tackles for loss. In his senior year he racked up 73 total tackles and earned both of his sacks. In 2020, Young was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent. The 6'5", 250 lb defensive end was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals after being cut from the Falcon's training camp. He'll be attempting to get his career back on track when he enters the USFL this coming season.
Round 3 would have the Generals taking another defensive end in Kolin Hill who played his college ball at Texas Tech. Hill would transfer from Notre Dame in 2015 to Texas Tech and was on the field for three years for the Red Raiders. Hill finished his college career with 126 total tackles, 18 TFLs and 10 sacks. He also finished with 2 forced fumbles and eight deflected passes.

Mike Weber would be drafted as the General's starting running back. The Ohio State product finished his college career in 2018. He was Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2016 and also earned Second team All-Big Ten honors that same year. That said, Weber would end up sharing time with the other talented backs that came to Columbus. He finished his college stint with 2,676 yards on the ground over the course of 455 attempts. He also caught 54 passes for 297 yards in this time and finished with 25 total touchdowns. He decided to leave OSU after his Junior year and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his time for the Cowboys, Weber carried the ball 22 times for 54 yards and caught five passes for 28 yards. He ended up being waived and then resigned to the practice squad. Weber was traded around the league and spent time as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants. Now he'll get to show the naysayers that he can produce on a professional level in the USFL.
The Generals' number one receiver will be J'Mon Moore. Moore played his college ball for the Missouri Tigers and was a member of the team from 2014-2017. In his time in Columbia, Moore caught 158 passes for a total of 2,477 yards and an average of 15.7 yards per catch. He earned 21 touchdowns through the air. He was on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List in his final season as a Tiger. Moore was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2018 with the 133rd pick of the draft. He was waived in August of 2019 and was then picked up by the Cleveland Browns. He also played for the Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons.
Guy's Pick: Based on their current roster makeup, the Generals seem like they'll be a middle-of-the-road team (5-5).
