UFC 139 Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 11/18/2011
Another week, another UFC event — this one is in San Jose on Saturday night. The UFC has had a ton of events in the last month, and I really don’t understand why we are seeing this one now. The card isn’t the most interesting by any means, and there can’t be a ton of hunger for it after so many events in a row.
UFC 139 Predictions: Henderson vs. Rua Odds and Picks
by Scott Johnson - 11/15/2011
This weekend fans will be treated to arguably one of the most stacked MMA events in recent memory as UFC 139, on Nov. 19, will feature seven former champions from the UFC, Strikeforce, WEC, and Pride. Headlining the show will be former two-division Pride champion and the last man to wear the Strikeforce 205-pounds belt, Dan Henderson -105. His opponent, Mauricio Rua -115, also a former Pride superstar, won the 2005 Pride Middleweight Grand Prix and is a former UFC light heavyweight champion.
UFC on Fox Betting Predictions and Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 11/11/2011
When the UFC took their show to cable with “The Ultimate Fighter,” they saw their popularity and influence grow dramatically. Now they are gambling that a move to the next level will cause their popularity to grow even more.
UFC on Fox Predictions: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos Odds
by Scott Johnson - 11/8/2011
Headlining the first instalment of the UFC on Fox, Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez -155 will put his title on the line against Junior Dos Santos +125. Velasquez is returning after his victory over Brock Lesnar while Junior defeated former interim-champion Shane Carwin to earn this title opportunity.
UFC 138 Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 11/3/2011
I don’t ever remember a UFC event that has been lower-profile than this one. Coming just a week after UFC 137, this event takes place in Birmingham, England. It will be shown live on free TV in Canada, and on delayed broadcast in the U.S.
UFC 138 Predictions: Munoz vs. Leben Odds and Betting Picks
by Scott Johnson - 11/1/2011
UFC 138 will be a historical event as it will feature the promotion’s first non-title five-round main event as middleweights Mark Munoz (-225) and Chris Leben (+175) will do battle in Birmingham, England. Munoz has won three in a row, dropping only one of seven appearances since moving to middleweight in 2009 while Chris Leben has won four of his last five.
UFC 137 Predictions and Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 10/28/2011
UFC 137 takes place this Saturday at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. To be honest, after all of the drama and the changes on this card I find it really hard to care too much about it. What once shaped up as a great card has slowly gotten worse and worse, and now it is far from intriguing.
UFC 137 Predictions: Penn vs. Diaz Odds and Betting Preview
by Scott Johnson - 10/25/2011
With two weeks to go before the event, UFC 137’s welterweight title fight between the champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Carlos Condit was scrapped after a knee injury derailed St-Pierre. We will have to wait until early 2012 for this fight to materialize, but the contest promoted to main event will be just as entertaining.
UFC 136 Predictions and Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 10/7/2011
The UFC travelling road show heads to Houston, as UFC 136 takes place at the Toyota Center on Saturday night. In what is shaping up to be an epic month for the UFC, full of title fights and thrilling bouts, this is a very strong card featuring two title fights that have a chance to be classics. Here’s how the main card shapes up (all odds are from Bodog):
UFC 136 Odds: Edgar vs. Maynard Predictions and Preview
by Scott Johnson - 10/3/2011
At UFC Fight Night 13, April 2 2008, Gray Maynard defeated Frankie Edgar in a relatively uneventful lightweight bout. Fast forward to New Years Day 2011 and the same two combatants met in the main event of UFC 125 with Frankie Edgar’s UFC Lightweight Championship on the line.
UFC 135 Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 9/22/2011
The last time the UFC was in Denver was 1995 for an eight-man tournament -- the first UFC event ever to use judges. Dan Severn won that day in front of a crowd of 2,800. When the UFC returns to Denver on Saturday for UFC 135, there will be a whole lot more than 2,800 people in the Pepsi Center, with millions more watching on pay-per-view.
UFC 135 Predictions: Jones vs. Jackson Betting Picks
by Scott Johnson - 9/20/2011
On Sept. 24, UFC 135 will mark an important moment in both the light heavyweight division and the career of Jon Jones. Chuck Liddell successfully defended his 205 pound title four times. Since Liddell’s run came to an end there have been six different title holders, including Jones and his UFC 135 opponent Rampage Jackson. In fact, Rampage was the man that began this title carousel when he rendered Liddell unconscious in UFC 71.
UFC 134 Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 8/25/2011
The UFC returns to Brazil for just the second time ever when UFC 134 hits HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, Aug. 27. Given the number and strength of Brazilian fighters in the UFC it’s really amazing that they have only been there once before — and that was way back in 1998.
UFC 134 Odds: Silva vs. Okami Betting Predictions
by Scott Johnson - 8/22/2011
The UFC 134 top fight is a rematch from back in 2006. In that matchup Anderson Silva was clearly the superior striker while Yushin Okami attempted a couple of unsuccessful shots. Eventually Yushin completed a takedown, which was quickly followed by an illegal up kick that ended the fight.
UFC 133 Predictions and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 8/4/2011
If you believe in such things, then you would be certain that UFC 133 is cursed. Jon Jones was supposed to defend his light heavyweight title against Rashad Evans, but he got hurt and had to back out. Phil Davis took his place, but injured himself in mid-July and had to be replaced on short notice by Tito Ortiz. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was supposed to face Rich Franklin, but the Brazilian was hurt and the fight was scrapped. Jose Aldo was rumored to be on the card, but he got hurt as well. Alessio Sakara tore his ACL so he was unable to fight Jorge Rivera, and Constantinos Philippou was moved up from the undercard to be his replacement.
UFC 133 Picks: Evans vs. Ortiz Predictions
by Scott Johnson - 8/3/2011
This weekend’s UFC 133 card features a main event (Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz) that looks pretty lopsided on paper. However, as we always do here at Doc’s Sports, we will try and see if there is any value here for UFC picks. As always, we will have a full slate of UFC 133 predictions on our homepage on Friday. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at the main event.
UFC 132 Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 7/1/2011
It’s time for another UFC event. UFC 132 enters the octagon on Saturday, July 2 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. The most notable feature of this card is that it features the first-ever defense of the UFC Bantamweight championship -- and a heck of a fight is expected. At 126 to 135 pounds these are the smallest fighters in the UFC, but certainly not the least entertaining.
UFC 131 Odds and Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 6/9/2011
The city’s beloved Canucks are in the midst of a brutal Stanley Cup final, and tensions are high after a rough trip to Boston. Still, the show must go on, and the rest of the world that doesn’t really care about hockey will be focused on what is shaping up to be a solid UFC 131 card. The main event is a heavyweight challenge that was supposed to feature Brock Lesnar, but is actually better without him. Here’s a look at the main UFC 131 card:
UFC 130 Odds and Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 5/26/2011
The UFC returns to the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, May 28, for UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill. The card was supposed to feature a more interesting main event -- the third meeting between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, and their second for the UFC Lightweight title -- but injuries to both fighters has delayed that event. This new main event was supposed to be different as well. Jackson was originally facing Thiago Silva, but Silva was injured. Rashad Evans was the rumored replacement before Hamill stepped in.
UFC 129 Odds and Betting Predictions
by T.O. Whenham - 4/29/2011
After years of lobbying by the UFC, MMA is now legal in the province of Ontario. So this weekend the UFC invades Canada’s biggest city for the first time on Saturday night when they bring UFC 129 to Toronto. Not only is it their first time there, but it will be in front of the largest crowd ever for one of their events — it takes place in the sold out home of the Blue Jays, the Rogers Centre. That’s a hideous barn of a building, but with 55,000 screaming fans in it there should be lots of life and atmosphere.
