Tennis Picks (Today's Predictions and Betting Tips)
Danil Medvedev vs Grigor Dimitrov US Open Picks 9/6/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 9/5/2019
Most of us expected to see Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer semifinal, but in the end, neither of them got to this stage of the competition. World No.1 had to retire in his 4th round match vs Stan Wawrinka, after repeated issues with his shoulder. While Federer got eliminated in quarterfinals by Grigor Dimitrov.
Alexander Zverev vs Aljaz Bedene US Open Picks 8/31/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/30/2019
After making things complicated in the first round, Zverev did it again in his second match. First, let's remember what happened on Tuesday when he played Radu Albot. He won first two sets comfortably, 6-1, 6-3. When everybody thought that he is in cruise control and that his opponent can't do anything to change that, Zverev's level dropped severely and he lost the next two sets. In the decider, he simply woke up as nothing happened and won it convincingly.
Gael Monfils vs Denis Shapovalov US Open Picks 8/31/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/30/2019
Denis Shapovalov was having a losing season before entering Winston Salem last week. That 4 months-long stretch after that semifinal in Miami was really rough for him. He won only 4 out of his 15 matches and it was obvious that he needs to change something. In such cases, revamp of the coaching staff is the most common move.
Pablo Andujar vs Alexander Bublik US Open Picks 8/31/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/30/2019
Raise your hand if you expected Pablo Andujar to reach 3rd round of US Open. Don't lie, nobody saw that one coming. Why do I find it so surprising? Well, Pablo Andujar was always a clay-court specialist. If we look at his career stats on that surface, his win percentage is over 50%, while on the other surfaces that number gets cut in half.
Novak Djokovic vs Denis Kudla US Open Picks 8/30/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/29/2019
Wednesday schedule at US Open got almost entirely washed out by the rain. There were a couple of matches played under the closed roof of the two biggest stadiums, Arthur Ashe Stadium, and Louis Armstrong stadium. One of those was Djokovic's second-round match vs Juna Ignacio Londero. Even though he managed to get a win in straight sets, the match was far from being easy for world No.1.
John Isner vs Jan Lennard Struff US Open Picks 8/29/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/28/2019
After it seemed that he is going to have a very good season, John Isner had to take a break from tennis. He was sidelined for three months, after suffering a foot injury in Miami, where he lost to Roger Federer in the finals. He was back right in time for the start of Wimbledon, but the lack of match fitness prevented him to get further from the 2nd round.
Matteo Berrettini vs Jordan Thompson US Open Picks 8/29/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/28/2019
Matteo Berrettini is having a really strong year so far. He won 30 out of his 45 matches and 2 titles to go with it. He exploded somewhere in the middle of April with that great run in Budapest and remained hot all the way through the grass-court season. He proved that he is becoming an all-around player that can win on any surface. He didn't start his American swing campaign very well by losing to Londero in Cincinnati.
Borna Coric vs Grigor Dimitrov US Open Picks 8/28/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/27/2019
Borna Coric retired in quarterfinals of Halle, a couple of weeks before Wimbledon. That back injury was so severe that he was forced to withdraw from third Grand Slam of the season, held at All England Lawn Tennis club. He returned just in time for ATP Umag in his home country, Croatia. But it was obvious that he is not quite ready yet, which resulted in a loss to Salvatore Caruso. He wasn't able to raise the level of his game for the American hard-court swing and won only 1 of 3 matches before arriving to New York.
Novak Djokovic vs Juan Ignacio Londero US Open Picks 8/28/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/27/2019
Novak Djokovic is chasing another Grand Slam title in New York. 3rd this year and 17th of his entire career. The 16th title that he won a couple of months ago in Wimbledon was quite amazing. He was almost beat already. Federer was serving and had two championship points, to win his 21st career title. That one would almost certainly put him out of reach from his closest rivals when we're talking about the number of Grand Slam titles.
Denis Shapovalov vs Felix Auger-Aliassime US Open Picks 8/27/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/26/2019
A couple of bad news for Canadian tennis right at the beginning of the US Open. First, they lost their No.2 guy Milos Raonic, who was forced to withdraw from the tournament because of the glute injury. That same injury was the reason why he retired from his second-round match vs Auger Aliassime in Montreal. The other bad thing is Shapovalov and FAA facing each other in the first round already. Expectations for both very pretty high, so they can't be happy about losing one of them in the first round already.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Andrey Rublev US Open Picks 8/27/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/26/2019
After having a very strong summer on clay, Stefanos Tsitsipas failed to maintain that level of performance on other surfaces. He lost in first rounds of both Hertogenbosch and Wimbledon (grass). And then failed to improve on that after arriving in North America. Correction, he did flash some better tennis in Washington, but then went right back to losing by getting eliminated in first rounds of Montreal and Cincinnati.
Thomas Fabbiano vs Dominic Thiem US Open Picks 8/27/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/26/2019
It's safe to say that Thomas Fabbiano is a late bloomer. He is 30 years old and ranked 87th in the world. That number is pretty close to his highest rank. Only a couple of years ago, he was more of a challenger tour player. There were not many indications that he'll be able to raise the level of his game later on and become a regular on the ATP tour.
Denis Kudla vs. Janko Tipsarevic US Open Qualifying Picks 8/26/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/23/2019
After 16 years spent on the tour, Janko Tipsarevic announced his retirement a couple of days ago. Once a Top 10 player, had a very rough patch in the last 5 years or so. He was battling numerous injuries that were keeping him off the court. And every time he came back and tried to find some earlier success, injuries struck again. This year he didn't play many matches. In the beginning, he appeared in a couple of challengers but soon gave up on those, saying that he's simply too old to be grinding for points on the challenger tour.
Elliot Benchetrit vs. Kimmer Coppejans US Open Qualifying Picks 8/23/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/22/2019
These matches are extremely important for players that spend most of their season grinding on the Challenger tour. Mostly because of the financial aspect. Even when talking about Grand Slam qualifying rounds, prize money easily surpasses those second-tier tournaments.
Robin Haase vs. John Millman Winston Salem Open Picks 8/21/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/20/2019
Looking at some of his latest results, I was afraid that Robin Haase might give up on singles and focus on the doubles completely from now on. He arrived in North Carolina with 4 consecutive losses in singles but had some massive success in the doubles. Out of last 4 tournaments, he played finals in 3 of them and won a title in Umag.
Yoshito Nishioka vs. David Goffin Cincinnati Open Picks 8/16/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/15/2019
Yoshito Nishioka reached his first quarterfinals of the Masters series tournament. His previous best was 3rd round in Indian Wells earlier this year, where he retired after the first set vs Kecmanovic. Similar to last year, his form is ascending nicely since the start of the American hard-court swing. Last year he built on it and won the tournament in Shenzen.
Novak Djokovic vs. Pablo Carreno Busta Cincinnati Open Picks 8/15/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/14/2019
As mentioned in some previous articles, the top quarter of the draw is observed with an unusual level of thrill, by most of the tennis fans. Reason for that is the possible Djokovic vs Kyrgios matchup in the quarterfinals. They haven't played since Aussie expressed how much he dislikes the Serb while being guest in one of the podcasts.
Nick Kyrgios vs. Karen Khachanov Cincinnati Open Picks 8/14/2019
by Josh Schonwald - 8/13/2019
There was a lot of excitement among the tennis fans when the draw was completed for the Masters in Cincinnati. The reason for that was the possibility of Nick Kyrgios facing Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. For those who don't know, Kyrgios is probably the most controversial person on the tour right now. Kinda like modern John McEnroe. His opinions are unfiltered and he is often taking shots at his colleagues.
Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Cincinnati Open Picks 8/14/2019
by Guy Bruhn - 8/13/2019
After finishing of clay court season on a high note, Stefanos Tsitsipas wasn't able to keep that form entering this grass/hard court part of the season. The combination of a semifinal in Washington and three first-round eliminations in this period are a clear indicator that his overall performance was very inconsistent. Based on his talent alone, he is still one of the "dark horses" in this upcoming US Open. I would agree with these high expectations because someone with his skillset can turn it on at any time and should never be overlooked.
Andrey Rublev vs. Nikoloz Basilashvili Cincinnati Open Picks 8/13/2019
by Tony Sink - 8/12/2019
After finishing up clay court season on a high note, the transition to the American hard courts wasn't as smooth as Rublev would have liked. He played great tennis in Hamburg, being only a set away from winning the title of that ATP 500 event. But those slow conditions there were suited perfectly to his playing style, which cannot be said for faster hard courts. That resulted in losses to Gojowczyk in the first round of Washington and even a more surprising loss to Marc Polmans in the first qualifying round of Montreal.
