2016 Euro Cup Predictions: Group A Odds and Expert Picks
by Chris Vasile - 6/2/2016
Over the next week, I will be breaking down each group to help you understand how each team got into the 24-team tournament, what their expectations are, how they like to line up on the pitch, if they possibly have what it takes to get hot and go on a run (looking at you Italy) or if a nation can shock the world like Greece did in 2004.
Copa America Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
by Victor Ryan - 6/1/2016
Copa America is the world's oldest international soccer tournament, as its 1916 start pre-dates the World Cup by 14 years. This year's centennial edition of the South American championship is unique in a couple of ways, most notably that it's being played in the United States. Second, in addition to the usual 10 countries from South America (CONEMBOL), six nations from North and Central America (CONCACAF) will also compete.
Women's World Cup Betting: Expert Gives Elimination Round Best Futures Bets
by Trevor Whenham - 6/18/2015
The round-robin portion of the Women's World Cup is in the books, and now we await the elimination rounds. It has been a good tournament so far, and this is where it gets really good. It's also where the betting really gets interesting. Sixteen teams are still alive, and by July 5 there will be just one. But which team will it be? And is there money to be made from betting on them? Let's take a look (odds to win the tournament are from 5Dimes):
Summer Soccer Tournaments Provide Great Moneymaking Opportunities
by Raphael Esparza - 5/19/2015
This Saturday another season of English Premier League soccer ends, and on Saturday June 6 the UEFA Champions League soccer tournament comes to an end. Don't be too sad, soccer fans, because this summer there are three enormous soccer tournaments that will provide us with some quick summer cash. I have spoken to Las Vegas sportsbooks and offshore sportsbooks and they all agree that betting interest will be high for these summer tournaments.
2015 Women’s World Cup Betting Odds and Expert Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 5/7/2015
The Women’s World Cup is now less than a month away. It runs from June 6 to July 5 and will be played in six Canadian cities. There has been some controversy leading up to the tournament — the men’s tournament must be played on grass, so the women are upset that the whole tournament will be on artificial turf. Anger seems to have shifted to bitter acceptance at this point, though, so now we can focus on getting ready to make some money on the tournament.
2016 Euro Soccer Futures Odds with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/19/2014
Now that the World Cup is in our rearview mirror, the thing for soccer betting fans to do is to look ahead to the next major international competition — and the handicapping challenges that it will bring. The next big one is less than two years away — Euro 2016 kicks off on June 10 in France, with the final coming a month later. Given the top-end strength of the European squads at the World Cup — they finished first and third — there are a lot of reasons to be excited.
2018 World Cup Futures Odds with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/17/2014
The 2014 World Cup just ended, but is it ever too soon to start thinking about the 2018 edition of the world’s biggest sporting event? Of course it’s not! There will be a lot that changes between now and then, and qualification always offers plenty of surprises. Still, there are futures odds posted for the 2018 tournament at Sportsbook.ag already, so we might as well speculate about what could happen.
Germany vs Argentina World Cup Final Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Guy Bruhn - 7/11/2014
I won’t be surprised to see Germany dictate the terms of this match. We’ve seen Argentina less aggressive than perhaps most billed this team as coming to Brazil. Germany has one of the best counter-attacking units in world football, but I think Argentina will have a better chance to use this feature, as Germany will keep the majority of possession and feel as though they can state the terms of how the 2014 World Cup Final is to be played out.
Brazil vs Netherlands 3rd Place Game Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Josh Schonwald - 7/11/2014
The Third Place match is notorious for goals and an open style of play. Neither team will show a defensive hold on this game, and usually this provides for one of the most entertaining matches of the tournament as if this tournament hasn't been exciting enough.
Betting on the World Cup Championship Game: Tips and Advice
by Trevor Whenham - 7/9/2014
Betting on the World Cup final is different than betting on any other game in the tournament. Significantly different. Those who are aware of those differences have the best chance of avoiding costly mistakes and of making the best decisions that they can. Here are five of those biggest differences and what they mean for bettors:
World Cup Handicapping: Betting Challenges for Third-Place Game
by Trevor Whenham - 7/9/2014
As I write this we are just a few hours removed from Brazil’s semifinal debacle. Time has not made it make any more sense — that was the strangest game I have ever seen. Among many other things to ponder coming out of that game, this 7-1 result forces us to think about the third-place game even more than usual.
Brazil vs. Germany World Cup Handicapping: Neymar and Silva absences
by Trevor Whenham - 7/7/2014
The good news for Brazil and their fans is that they beat Colombia and moved on to the Semifinals in their own World Cup. That is pretty much where the good news ends, though. Beyond that the semifinals were pretty much a disaster. First, captain Thiago Silva received his second yellow card in the game, and that means that he will not be available for the semifinal against Germany — though he can return for the final if they make it that far.
Netherlands vs Argentina Semi-Finals Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Tony Sink - 7/7/2014
I’d expect this to be a cagey affair. As high-powered an offense as Argentina has to offer, they have been fairly defensive-minded. I would presume the same to hold up against a Dutch side that will also approach this match with caution, knowing how much is on the line.
Brazil vs Germany Semi-Finals Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Guy Bruhn - 7/6/2014
Brazil has lacked a supplemental punch in attack and have been way too reliant on Neymar. Well now they don’t get that luxury against Germany. With Neymar sidelined who will step up? Oscar? Hulk? We'll find out on Tuesday.
World Cup Handicapping: Judging the Quarterfinalists
by Trevor Whenham - 7/3/2014
As we await the start of the quarterfinals in the World Cup it is a good time to evaluate the eight remaining teams. What do they face going forward? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Most importantly, is there any value in betting on them to win the tournament?:
World Cup Betting: Handicapping the Regions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/3/2014
With time between the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals, this is a good time to look at how the regions have performed in the tournament so far. Each team is obviously separate from their region, but by studying the strength of the regions we can more effectively understand how well a team is performing based to the expectations we had for them coming into the tournament. In short, then, understanding how regions have performed can help us to predict how the team might perform going forward. Without further ado, and in alphabetical order:
Odds to Win the World Cup Update with Picks and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/2/2014
We get a breather from all the World Cup action as we await the start of the quarterfinals on July 4. It’s a good time, then, to look for value in the World Cup futures as they sit now with some picks and predictions for the final eight teams (odds for World Cup winner are from Bovada):
Argentina vs Belgium Quarterfinals Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Josh Schonwald - 7/2/2014
I expect both teams to take the games to each other in true attacking fashion. Each unit is best when going forward, and so the big difference in this one will be how they react to one another when on their back heels defending the other’s attack.
France vs Germany Quarterfinals Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Tony Sink - 7/2/2014
France has as balanced a team as anyone in Brazil which will leave Germany with their hands full. With that, they are seen to be able to create mismatches across the field, both in the middle of the midfield and out wide on the flanks.
Netherlands vs Costa Rica Quarterfinals Free World Cup Picks & Odds
by Josh Schonwald - 7/2/2014
Netherlands will need to take the game to Costa Rica, who played an extra 30 minutes in the heat and looked to have drained themselves as they did everything in their power to advance. An up-tempo match favors the Dutch, and they’d be smart to push forward as frequently as they can to put the underdogs on the heels for much of this match.
