Free NHL pick from Doc’s Sports for Saturday: Take Calgary -165 over San Jose (10 p.m. EST, Saturday December 28) Calgary is well rested while the Sharks are coming in on a back-to-back after losing to Vegas on Friday in a match they probably wanted to play well in more than this one. The Sharks are lacking depth so the B2B is a serious problem, especially after coming off the extended break and playing twice in two nights. San Jose has been more competitive but this seems like a point in the season where they could trail off. They have now lost six straight, and they traded away their best goalkeeper earlier in the month. They have allowed at least four goals in all but one of the games on the current losing streak. Calgary is on the cusp of a wild card spot and they need to win games like this if they are to have even a remote chance to be a playoff team this season. We don’t think they will be anywhere near the postseason when all is said and done, but this has to be considered a very winnable game for them, and they have won seven of the last eight meetings.
