The United States will be attempting to pick up its second consecutive World Cup title when it goes up against Netherlands in the final on Sunday afternoon. The top ranked Americans were able to make it to this point by dominating their group and then beating Spain, France, and England. The Dutch have played excellent defense throughout this tournament, allowing their opponents to score just three goals while scoring 11 goals themselves. The United States will be favored to win the World Cup, but it's a game the Netherlands can win if its defense plays well again.

The United States has done what most experts expected by going undefeated up to this point. They did struggle a bit against England in that 2-1 win last round, but they were still able to create 10 chances in a game where they weren't at their best. They should be able to control the possession against the Netherlands, but the defensive issues they've shown of late could be cause for concern. Look for the United States to be aggressive from the outset on Sunday.

Key Players for the U.S.:

Alex Morgan - Morgan has arguably been the best player at the tournament this year. She's tied for the Golder Boot lead with six goals, including the winner against England, and she's also tied for the lead in assists with three. The striker will obviously once again be the primary focus of the Americans' attack, but she's going to have to work very hard to find holes against the Netherlands' highly rated defense.

Alyssa Naeher - The 31-year-old goalkeeper has looked fantastic at times during this tournament, but she's also had shaky moments where it looked like the World Cup pressure was getting to her a bit. This will be her first World Cup Final, so she'll be hoping to get a few early touches to shake off those nerves.

Not many people expected the Netherlands to make it this far in the tournament. Head coach Sarina Wiegman has done a fantastic job of getting her players to play good defense throughout, allowing them to win all of their close matches. In their 1-0 win against Sweden in the semifinals, they showed that they can shut down a good attacking team while also finding a way to create good chances for their attackers. The Americans are the best team in the world, but if the Dutch can frustrate them, they certainly have a chance to walk away as champions.

Key Players for the Netherlands:

Hedvig Lindahl - The veteran goalkeeper has been amazing at this year's World Cup. She has made key stop after key stop against some of the top attacking teams in the world. Of course, the United States is a notch above the rest, so chances are Lindahl will have to have the game of her life if the Dutch are going to come away with the upset win.

Jackie Groenen - Groenen had been one of the Netherlands' unsung heroes of this tournament until she scored the winner against Sweden on Wednesday. The young midfielder does a great job of protecting her defense and quickly springing her attackers when she gets the ball. She is certainly one to keep an eye on in this match.
