South Africa will play at Stade de la Mosson when they take on Germany on Monday, June 17, 2019 in a Women's World Cup matchup. The opening line for this game has South Africa at +1439 and Germany at -1754. The line on the game being a draw has been set at +818.

On Monday afternoon, Germany will look to make it three out of three in to win Group B when they face off against last place South Africa. Germany has been able to take two 1-0 wins in their opening matches and have put together some of the best defensive efforts in the tournament so far. South Africa lost both of their group matches so far, including their 1-0 loss to China last Thursday.

South Africa's long winless streak continued last Thursday in that loss to China. Head coach Desiree Ellis did put together a better defensive strategy in that game, but she has yet to find a way to get her attack going. Well, it's not going to get much easier for her team as they go up against a Germany that is hot and ranked second in the world, so South Africa will probably have to play a perfect game if they don't want to get embarrassed in this one.

Key Players South Africa:

Janine van Wyk - South Africa will know that they are huge underdogs in this game, so it will be long-time captain van Wyk's job to keep her team focused. The veteran defender will need to help her side keep its shape against Germany's attack, which is a very tall task.

Noko Matlou - van Wyk's defensive partner, Noko Matlou, will have an equally tough job slowing Germany's attackers in this match. The 33-year-old is arguably the team's top talent and she can physically dominate most opposing players. Also keep an eye on her on South Africa's corner kicks as she is an excellent player in the air.

Germany has not been blowing opposing teams out early on in this tournament as many experts expected, but they've done a great job of keeping control of the ball and they've played great team defense. However, head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg will want to see more from her team in this match against South Africa since she knows that much better opponents will be waiting for Germany in the next round.

Key Players for Germany:

Dzsenifer Marozsan - Germany should have the vast majority of possession against South Africa and it could be Marozsan who gets the most touches. The attacking midfielder is a fantastic creator for this German side and she's also been able to score 20 goals in her 73 caps. She's going to be an important player moving forward in the World Cup, so she'll want to use this game as her chance to get some momentum going.

Alexandra Popp - Germany's main striker should get plenty of chances in this match against South Africa. Popp has yet to score in this World Cup, but she scored six in qualifiers and she has a total of 41 goals in just 68 national team appearances. There's a very good chance that the 28-year-old will put at least one ball into the net in this one.
