On Thursday afternoon, the Norwegians will have a difficult matchup on their hands when they face highly-ranked England in the World Cup Quarterfinals. Norway made it to this round thanks to some solid play during the group stages and a shootout win over Australia in the Round of 16. England went undefeated during group play and followed that up with a dominant 3-0 victory over Cameroon last round. England will be the favorites in this match, but Norway is expected to put up a tough challenge.

Caroline Hansen - Hansen is just 24 years old yet she already has 26 goals in 76 international appearances, so this big stage shouldn't bother her too much. The winger has been one of Norway's standout players in this tournament by constantly putting pressure on defenders and even contributing one goal. When Norway has the ball in this game, expect Hansen to once again be a focal point of the offense.

Maria Thorisdottir - The 26-year-old defender is going to have a big job on her hands against this potent English attack. She and partner Maren Mjelde have played very well up until this point, but this will be by far the toughest opposition that they've gone up against at the World Cup. It will be her job to mark England's top attackers and use her good speed to ensure no one gets behind her.

As some expected, England has been one of the most dominant teams at this year's World Cup, outscoring its opponents 8-1 through their first four games and not showing many weaknesses. Norway does present a new type of challenge for the English, though, as they have played excellent defense in their games. With that being said, expect them to stick to what they've been doing until it fails them, which means high-possession soccer and multiple attackers rushing the opposing net whenever they get the chance.

Key Players for England:

Toni Duggan - The 27-year-old Liverpool winger hasn't scored yet in this World Cup, but she has been influential for England. She should line up on the left side of the midfield again in this game and will be counted on to continue to put balls into the box and to take on defenders whenever she sees the opportunity.

Stephanie Houghton - The veteran central defender has been fantastic for England, quickly shutting down opposing attacks whenever England loses the ball and just as quickly getting the ball to her teammates up the field. She's also been a bit of an offensive force, scoring twice during qualifications and one in the win over Cameroon on Sunday.
