Uruguay will play at Samara Arena when they take on Russia on Monday, June 25, 2018 in a Group A matchup. The opening line for this game has Uruguay at +163 and Russia at +163. The total has been set at 2.25.

Both teams will be looking to get through to the round of 16, so you can expect to see a bit of a slow start as they feel each other out and then quite a bit of risk-taking. Russia comes into the contest as slight favorites, but this game could just as easily end with a Uruguay win or a draw.

Uruguay

On paper Uruguay has a team of extremely talented players that could take down most teams around the world, but they seem to struggle against the more defensive sides like Russia. They have multiple attackers who can score against anyone, but creating goals can be a struggle. With that being said, on form they should be able to get a few past Russia and their hope is that they can get one in early and open up the floodgates.

Cristian Rodriguez

The veteran winger doesn't have quite the same speed he used to be known for, but he has a nasty cross and he's still not afraid to take defenders on in one-on-one situations. His job will be to try to beat the Russian defense with high and low crosses to star striker Edinson Cavani.

Diego Godin

Russia's offense has looked strong of late, so it will be up to Godin and whoever starts beside him to stay composed and deal with the threats that come their way. With nearly 120 caps under his belt, you can be sure that Godin will be a calming influence in the back for Uruguay in this vitally important game.

Russia

Russia will have the home field advantage in this matchup, but that shouldn't be as big of a factor in the third fixture, especially against an experienced side like Uruguay. The big question coming into this matchup for Russia is whether or not they can win the midfield battles and keep possession. They certainly could win those battles and, if they do, they'll look to push extra players forward to overwhelm Uruguay's defense. It'll be interesting to see if Russia takes a more conservative approach in this one.

Igor Akinfeev

Russia's veteran keeper has excellent reflexes and his positioning is considered elite. Unfortunately, he's also known for making some bonehead decisions in key moments. If he keeps his composure throughout this contest against Uruguay, Russia definitely has a high chance of walking out of the stadium with all three points. If he lets one in early and starts taking chances, Uruguay could destroy Russia in this one.

Aleksandr Golovin

The talented young midfielder gets a lot of touches for Russia, and he is starting to look like the type of player that defenses will focus on. He's a good team defender and he will run at the defense whenever they give him a little bit of space on the ball.
