After surprising just about everyone by coming out on top in Group E, Sweden will look to keep their momentum going when they take on Group E runner-up Switzerland in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Sweden had two wins in their group, including a dominant 3-0 victory over Mexico in the final fixture, while Switzerland got through their group with a win and two draws. Switzerland are very slight favorites going into this game, but this should be one of the tightest-fought matchups of the round.

Sweden

Sweden will be looking to replicate what it did against Mexico: Allow Switzerland to have possession dominance and make the most of their opportunities when they get them. They will know that Switzerland plays excellent team defense, though, so it will be tricky finding holes. Look for them to put in plenty of crosses and to shoot from distance every time they have a bit of open space.

Viktor Claesson

The 26-year-old midfielder was able to pick up two assists during the group stages by keeping his head up and not hesitating to move the ball forward to his attackers. He will need to replicate those performances against Switzerland to keep them off balance, and he will also need to keep Switzerland's midfielders uncomfortable when they have the ball.

Marcus Berg

Berg has yet to score in this tournament, but he has done a good job of holding the ball up for his teammates and putting pressure on opposing defenders. The 31-year-old striker will be looking to find holes in Switzerland's defense and he will be the main target man in the box.

Switzerland

Head coach Vladimir Petkovic has done a great job of injecting a lot of chemistry into his team, making it better than the sum of its parts. The midfield, in particular, has looked solid and will need to have another good performance against Sweden if they are going to move forward in the World Cup. Look for them to try to win the possession battle and to focus on good scoring chances rather than just putting the ball in the box. If their midfield plays well, they should be able to get to the quarterfinals.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri has been at his best in this tournament so far. The 26-year-old winger has been keeping defenses off balance and he has not been afraid to take his shots. He had just one goal in three group stage games, but you can be sure that he was always giving those defenses headaches. If he puts in another solid performance in this game against Sweden, expect to see him on the score sheet with at least an assist.

Stephan Lichtsteiner

Unsurprisingly, Lichtsteiner has been the top Swiss defender so far in this tournament. With over 100 caps to his name, he will not be put off his game under the bright lights and will know exactly what he needs to do against Sweden's attackers. He does lack pace, though, so Sweden will try to send attackers early to try to get behind Lichtsteiner and the rest of the Swiss defense.
